Droopiness!

This has been one of those weeks where I could not be me! Does that make any sense to you? I hope so because I think if you read  my last few post and perhaps this one too you might see where I just can't write or visit with you the way I want too.

Some issues have come up over my back and working or not working that have left me asking myself is my life over. I don't mean as in dying but as in living a strong independent life I am use too. Several things have come up that until they are finalized I can't write about them just yet but wanted to explain the droopiness in my post. hahaha  Is that such a word?

Droopiness! After writing this word it makes me realize that maybe thats a good word to describe  how I am feeling. Then tonight I found Calendar Girls was on Dish  and thought  hey this might be what I need to do is watch this movie.

I know most of you are familiar with Calendar Girls. It was filmed mostly in England based on a true story. I loved the film back in 2003 and enjoyed it just as much tonight.

Of course you know me while watching it I was trying to figure out which of these old ladies was me! Then I had to wonder if I posed nude like they did what would the photographer use as a promp in front of me. I can tell you now it would not have been one of the cup cake scenes or fruit. I am thinking more of something like a huge fern that droops like I do now.

In fact I was just telling Gretchen yesterday that I had to buy the biggest bra ever for myself this week and that is just one more thing my mother and grandmother never told me about aging. Geezzzz marie who knew when body parts start drooping you have to buy larger sizes to solve some of the problems.

No wonder I am feeling droopness this week it just occured to me while typing this about my bra experience. Good gosh what you discover about yourself while your writing a post. Maybe it had nothing to do with all these decisions I have to make in the next month maybe it was having to buy the biggest bra I have ever laid eyes on.   hahaha

I feel like I now have my own Discovery Channel going on right here on Just Between Me and You and did not even realize it.

OKAY enough on me lets talk about this cute movie.

Helen Merrin and Julia Walters star in this movie about two friends whose lives are shattered when one of their husbands die of leukaemia.
Both are active member of the local Women’s Institute, in England and enlists the support of their fellow members in a fund-raising initiative for the local hospital. Their idea was to produce a calendar, with a different woman photographed for each month. Each one will be engaged in a classic WI task, such as jam making, flower pressing and knitting. Sounds traditional enough, but the idea has a radical twist - the women will be in the nude. Before they know it, the women are hitting the headlines at home and abroad. Whisked off to Hollywood on a whirlwind publicity tour, they take their turn on the talk shows and in magazine photo-shoots. Amidst the hype and glamour, the friendship between Chris and Annie is put to the test.

Of course they figure it all out and kiss and make up.

So would you pose nude for a calendar to raise money for a good cause like these ladies did. They actually raised enough to build a whole new wing onto the local hospital when in truth they set out to raise money to buy a new sofa for the family waiting room.  Way to go girls!

When I googled this movie I found these great pictures of the original Calendar girls.
Six of the eleven women who were pictured in the original calendar sold the rights to their stories. They were Angela Baker, Tricia Stewart, Beryl Bamforth, Lynda Logan, Christine Clancy, and Ros Fawcett. In addition to the calendars, they also posed for a postcard known as "Baker's Half Dozen."

.

Not only did I love the movie but the shots they showed of the country side in England just made me want to watch it  over again or fly to England. I was wondering about some of my friends that live near London and have blogs if this was filmed near where they are living.  The soundtrack too was fun like the movie. I have two of the songs added by the Temptations and Beach Boys to my play list.

Sweet  Sybil who lives near Bath has the lovely blog A Day in the Life of Syb's. and also a fellow Texan Debi has a site called A Tale of Two Cities! . Debi is lucky enough to live both in Texas and England. Now what a life that sweet lady lives.  Be sure and check these two sites out you will be glad you did.

I feel better now that I have did this post. It brought a new light of my droopiness out. I guess these blogs are just really good therapy. Now I am going to forget everything but living for the next few days and even then I am leaving all of this up to God because I know he will never give me anything that he and I can not handle together.

Enjoy the weekend. I pray you have sunshine and warm weather. If not I pray you have someone to snuggle up with if not I am babysitting my daughters dog Toby this weekend and I can send him your way. He loves to cuddle.

Love to all
Maggie

PS: Don't forget to spring forward with you clocks.

Well, Maggie, I do hope things will work out the way you want them to. Calendar Girls is one of my favorites and if I ever find it by accident on TV I watch it. I'm sure I've seen it about 4 times already!

My dear Maggie, I too am going through some life changes and I don't know where I will wind up. Kinda scary at 63. Good luck to you honey.

I've never seen this movie..I know it's on dish and hopefully I'll get the chance to catch it..sounds like a goodie! Blogging is a good way to vent..we love to listen (read!) and send good wishes or advice. As I was reading (listening) to you I couldn't help but think how many changed we go through in life. I remember having to wear my first bra and hating it! The trials and growing pains really don't stop until our hearts do I guess. My Mom is very near 85 and is pretty active despite all her fractures in the last 5yrs..we kid her about taking a "lickin' and keep on tickin'" attitude. She inspires me. I think what's great about the calendar girls is realizing we can get older, still have fun, still be sexy, still do something wonderful to change lives for the better. I don't think I would ever pose nude..but then again there are many things I never thought I would do! So hang in there droopy drawers, we love 'ya and so does God!

I hope everything works out well for you. I love this movie. They are definitely some dignified, sexy ladies with a great sense of humor. God bless...

Well rats, it ate my comment. Just wanted to add that I hope your emotional droopiness improves a bunch, can't offer much hope for the bra size droopiness I fear:)) That falls under facts of life.
I do hope you will soon get relief from this back misery. You are too sweet to suffer so.
Off to Netflix now to reserve the movie. Sounds cute.

I have never watched this movie and will put it on my list. I don't think I could be photographed without clothes no matter how good the cause. Wish I could, but no!!

Hi Mags:
Hope you're feeling better today. I've never seen the movie, but my favorite promo quote was, "I think we're going to need bigger buns!". lol

When I was a mere teenager, a gal in her 50s just told me to remember one thing..."When you get to be my age, never take top. If you do, your partner will think he's looking at a bloodhound." I recently put a mirror on the counter in the bathroom while I was cleaning. I happened to look down into it, and DAMN! She was right! lol

Healing hugs from Florida,
xoxo

I have never seen this movie. It sounds real interesting I will have to find it at the library!
PS I went bra shopping about a month ago and I had to get a bigger one too! lol

Isn't it funny how everything tends to head south the older we get!!! I'm hopin' as everything goes south it'll at least pull the wrinkles outta my face! Heeehehehe!!!

I adore this movie and watch it every chance I can!!!

God bless and have a super undroppy weekend sweetie!!!

Oh Maggie. I am "droppy" right now as well. Not about the bra thing even though I went bra shopping since mine were ancient.... not the boobs but my bras.....well both. I spent hours and found one that fit. I can't wear those stupide underwire things and even though I found my size they all fit different. So dissappointing.
Onto feeling droppy. I hope your decisions will come easier with some though. It is a hard thing about being 60 ish. I am not happy with my job and just don't know what I want to do as far as a job for the next few years. Your back and health forcing you to not be able to work has to be so hard. I am sorry that doesn't get better.
Hey, want to meet for coffee sometime. What is mid pint from Texas to Ohio?

I can definitely relate to your droopiness...BOTH kinds...(the health-related and the boob-related).

This movie sounds like good medicine, though. Heck, if we can't control the wind, we can always adjust our sails, right?

Hugs.

Hon, reading this post made me squeal with grinning. I thought that it took me 60 (ahem) years to figure out my correct bra size! I thought that all along I must have been squeezing the girls into a too small bra. Now that I think of it, it's kinda silly. This thought I mean. Regardless, I am loving being 'busty.' It's sort of a luxury really. I haven't seen the movie but know of it. Thanks so much for the insight. I will definately view it. *smiles*

oh Maggie you make me laugh..mine have gone south and have been there for many years..they are good friends with my belly button..well almost..but I did buy a really good bra..that makes those suckers stand at attention...lol..and I look thinner too..I might pose nude if I was thin and in great shape..not now...no way jose..I did love that movie too.and we got to visit jolly old england..although not those really lovely parts..but we did see ireland and scotland..and oh my gosh..we did see the lovely parts..glorious..2 of the most beautiful places ever..

You know how much I think of you and how often you are in my prayers I do know that things will soon work out, only thing is that it will be in God's time and that is often different from ours !! I have been a bit lazy updating my blog this last week or two...just can't seem to get myself moving...never mind spring has sprung over here and it's been lovely seeing the sunshine. Don't know where the Calander Girls were actually filmed so no help to you there !! Do know that loads of films are made around here. Most of the Jane Austen ones were only about 5 miles from here.. You MUST save to come over I have SO much to show you...

What a delight it always is to read your blog, my friend! Now you've made me want to watch Calendar Girls all over again to see the English countryside! Out of curiosity, I looked up to see where it was filmed and found that it was filmed in Kettlewell in North Yorkshire--never been there, but it would be fun! And did you know there is a stage version of Calendar Gals? It played here in London last year, and I never got around to seeing it, but you'll be interested in knowing that Jerry Hall, Mick Jagger's wife of 10 years played in the stage version. Learned also that she was born in Gonzales, Texas. Small world!! Thanks for mentioning my blog--hope some of your friends stop by for a visit--you are blessed with so many friends!

I loved that movie too! Yep, droopy - never would I have guessed when I was younger - I think we all kind of have blinders on until we get to that certain age LOL Really funny when I was watching Dr. Oz one day and someone asked him a question about boob droop. He said there are muscles in your chest, kind of up near your shoulders (named after someone named Cooper) and when they lose their elasticity, you get Cooper Droop. I about died laughing since that is my last name and mine sure droop! LOL As far as posing nude - hmmmmmmmmmm - only if I could stand behind a large redwood tree with my head peering around the side and my arms straight out - that should hide enough LOLOLOL And I KNOW you know this but as they say, when one door closes...another opens. Your life isn't ever over till you stop breathing! Hugs!

Tracy said...

Oh Maggie,
We all go through our 'droopy' days and I pray yours are limited; regarding your mental health in the decisions you must make for your livlihood.
We all love you and are thinking of you and want only positive things...
As far as the bras? well, I don't have much to begin with so when it droops perhaps I'll gain a few cup sizes? Oh well, wishful thinking...
love and hugs my dear!

Maggie girl I think sometimes your the only medicine I need in my boring life. I knew when I read the title that I should empty the ole bladder before reading any further.
At our age decisions are harder to make because you think there is not time for wrong ones but in the past year getting to know you I feel that you will make the right one and what ever it is your trying to figure out I hope it has nothing to do with not writing for us to enjoy.
Saw a ad about Warrenton the other day and thought of you it is almost time for your big show so perk up and chest out and get going girl.
Think of you often
Always

I love that movie too. Definately a gutsy bunch of broads! I hate that you are feeling droopy Mags. I wish I was around to serve you a pitcher of martinis and solve all the world problems together.
As for bras - sadly I am not equipped enough to droop there but I could use some kind of holster for my butt cheeks. They are almost hitting the back of my knees!

Well, thank God. I thought I was the only one who got bigger and droopier as I've gotten older. My cute B's became C's which became D's and I only weigh 10 lbs more than I did when I was 22 years old! What's going on here?! But the same thing has happened to all of the women in my family. Could it be hereditary? I do love your blog and laugh at your antics. Best wishes on your health and the decisions you are facing. Please know that you have people on your side and sending prayers your way.

Isn't that the truth?? The older you get, the more things have happened to my body that I said in my head "that will never hppen to ME!!" I would NOT be naked on a calendar but admire those ladies for doing so. (The one in the back looks GOOD!!) I used to be kinda cute and never appreciated it...always thought there was something wrong...now I realize that wasn't true and I'm too old to appreciate it!! Ha!
I hope all is well with your health. I, too, have noticed things I don't like lately and think I better try to stay as healthy as possible...and appreciate it till the end!!

Maggie, I have been thinking about you...and just came back to ask you about HOW you are feeling these days...and here is your post about it.
I think I remembered you were hurt on your job. ( ? ) I am sorry, life has taken such an annoying twist for you.
It is exactly what happened to me... truly at the HEIGHT of my career...it was called FIBROMYALGIA !!
So I certainly understand your situation.
I too was very strong and active, we traveled a lot and had no real money worries then.
THEN WHAM... I had to retire with * NO INCOME at the age of 58. !!! ( * Because I owned my own company at the time. )
And like a DOOFUS..I did not have Disability Insurance on myself.
I do hope that you get things "settled" soon, and be able to get on with your life...in whatever manner is fitting for your situation.
I know I CERTAINLY had to "re-adjust" my whole life and how I live it........it all takes time my friend.

But ( laughing) I do NOT have have the same "problem" you have needing a larger bra...( I should be so lucky )

I too have never seen that movie you speak of..( short term memory loss) ..need to see it apparently.

Maggie, thanks for your kind comment on my blog. You're always a sweetheart as usual.

I always feel bad about your back problem and other stuff going on in your life but Maggie, you've got so many friends who love you just the way you are.

Nothing stays the same and sooner or later, even the ones with tight skin will droop in due time.

I wasn't given much to droop but what I had was half taken away so I guess I should be glad that I'm only half droopy. Droopiness comes in all sizes.

Keep your head up and they won't appear so droopy.lol.

I haven't seen the Calendar Girls but it sound like a lots of people love that movie.

I feel like I'm coming down with a cold just now and it's time to turn my clock one hour forward tonight before I go to bed.

Blogging is the best medicine but I know it won't do a darn thing for my cold. Hugs, sleep tight. JB

You are SO stinkin cute. I love this post. Honey mine went WAY SOUTH a long time ago. I am just going with the flow for now. My perky days are gone, and the only thing that perks is the coffee pot on Sunday mornings.

You are in my prayers sweet friend. Just remember to take it one day at a time. I hope that they can get your back figured out and ease some of the pain for you. You have had this for such a long time, it drains a person. My DH has gone through 3 back surgeries, and each one was a life saver. He was at the end of his ropes with pain.

Keep me posted sweetie. Just know that you are not alone. We are right there walking with you sweet girl, holding your hand the whole way. Many hugs and so much love, Sherry

Maggie, so sorry to hear that you are still having problems with your back, remember it is times like these when our faith is being tested, God says he will make all things for the good, so no matter what know that good will come out of your situation. And know that you have a friend on the other side of the world who is sending you love and prayer to keep you going through this difficult time. Wish I could be there to help you through, in God we are all sisters, and this sister loves you LOTS

Droopiness may mean larger sized bras but if your arthritis prevents hooking them in the back, and the ones that hook in the front come unhooked on a regular and inopertune basis, Houston, we have a problem. I wear sports or sleep bras. I never had much to brag about anyway!

Shirley said...

Oh Maggie, You never fail to get my attention and give me a chuckle when I seem to need it most. I know the back problem is know fun because I have Ostropolis Mis-spelled I am sure in mine. God will help you make the right decision and I am positive that you will. guess what I read your post about bras and I just bought myself two new one yesterday plus a couple new pair of jeans. My other jeans was getting holes where you didn't want them. HaHa.
I have seen Calendar girl more then once and throughly enjoyed it. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. We are in a winter storm watch tonight after having some nice warm weather absolutely weird. Take care my Friend. Hugs from Your Missouri Friend
