Bugs At The Alamo!

Mosquito Sign Pictures, Images and Photos

A Texas mosquito can suck a turkey flat footed. Yep it is true my friends. If you don’t believe me just come on down for a visit. I have known this fact since I was a little girl growing up on the Texas Gulf Coast. Wouldn’t that make for a good tourist ad for Texas you know the ones that say, Ya’ll Come to Texas for your summer vacation?

Now don’t get your spurs out and come looking for me. I love the Longhorn State and was born and raised on the Gulf Coast. Most people have heard the ole saying everything is bigger in Texas well their talking about Mosquitoes. One time my daddy had gone to bed before all us and we heard him holler to my mother. Hurry Chris bring a bat I have one cornered. Yep he was talking about a Texas Mosquitoes.

The reason for my Texas history lesson tonight is I have been trying to increase my walking a little bit everyday because if this ole woman ever wants to get back on her tractors again or wrestle with a few inmates she has got to get her strength back.
Christi came again to take me to a few appointments and then yesterday we walked over to the guest house which is where I try to walk to and back. Well coming back instead of staying on the dirt road I cheated and cut across the grass because I wanted to get back faster and flop my big butt down. Well so much for cheating. Since I went through the grass and she did not I was the one attached by the Texas Mosquitoes. Even my strongest pain pills don’t help their bites. Hahaha Itch my gosh you would think I have bed bugs. I told my grandson Bailey on the phone tonight something about bed bugs and of course he had no idea what I was talking about and actually I did not either. But he said,” Well Grandmayellowhair how many times have I told you that house is just to old for you and Tinkerbell. It was built before the Alamo and you know they had bugs at the Alamo. "

I of course agreed with the little guy and said, “Baby grandma is so proud of you learning about the bugs that were at the Alamo.” He also mentioned that he was going swimming a lot since school was out and he was getting really brown. Goofy grandmayellowhair said, “Well how will I know you when I see you if your getting so brown?” and he said. “Silly grandma just look for the six year old boy!”

You can tell by this post I am still doing the pain pills. I have jumped from Mosquitoes to a brown grandson. Hahahaha

Just had to check in with you tonight because mainly I miss you! Really and truly I miss all of you! It is just not the same not being able to be on here and laugh with you! Your comments are the best and do crack me up.
Christi being here saved the weekend for me because I am starting to feel like Jack Nickleson in One Flew Over the Cuakoo Nest….stir crazy is starting to set in again. I am so ready to be up and around so I can go buy a can of OFF!

Once again Thank You for all your prayers. They are working and I am getting better.

I hope all of you are doing good and I will catch up with all of you soon.

Sweet Dreams

Maggie

Maggie~

I am glad that you are feeling well enough to go for walks, that is a good sign!!! Just don't go through the grass anymore. I would hate for one of those mosquitoes to carry you off. We would miss you too much.

Keep taking those pain pills and one day soon you will be back to normal. I think of you often. Take care!

Love~

Hi Maggie,

That was great to hear that you are feeling better and taking walks.
Sorry about the mosquitoes, they are such pesky things. Thank goodness they seem to disappear over winter here, because they were really bad last summer. I love the sign ~wow!
I hope that you have a happy week

Hugs
Carolyn

I'm so glad to hear a good report from you and hope you continue to feel better and better.

I have to admit that the biggest mosquitoes I ever saw happened to be in Montana...at a horse ranch. Those things were unbelievable!

"A Texas mosquito can suck a turkey flat footed." Now I love that one and also your grandson's pure logic. We do tend to complicate things as we get older.
Keep walking but stay out of the tall grass. That is the mosquitoe's favorite hide out.
Keep healing lady.

Having lived in hot and muggy Houston for 21 years, I am here to say a huge ...AMEN...to this post! The thing I don't miss the most about Texas is the bugs...mosquitos, roaches and the worst.....FIRE ANTS!!!! The people of Texas are lovely...the heat, humidity and bugs...not so much ;-(
Please take care of yourself and feel better soon.

Hi Mags!
I think FL must grow a Texas mutant version of mozzies. Man, do they SUCK! Make a girl itch for a week, and then if you forget you had a bite and accidentally scratch it, you'll itch for ANOTHER week! Then, add alligators, rattle snakes and fire ants...ya just gotta love the South! Even so, you couldn't make me trade it for snow again!

Glad to hear Christy's got your butt outa bed, girlfriend. I'll write a note to you today and catch up. This is all I can write in public. lol
(not really! but how much space do you want me to take up here, after all?)

Love you,
Donna

Well, I'm sure glad your not recouping here in Washington because it is so WET and rainy this June it is depressing as all get out! I haven't seen many "skeeters" yet,,,,but I'm sure if they are out there (Lord knows I'm not spending time in the Garden) they are all wearing little raincoats!!!

If you need an extra smile and a good 'ole "Ahhhhhhh" stop over and just look at what I got to do on Saturday!

Hugs and scratches!
Love you to pieces!

Yep Maggie during my 10 years on and off of living in Texas (my mother was from Montreal so we floated back and forth a few times) I can attest to the fact that there are "critters" in Texas that scare the flipping pants off me! You have to be a very hardy soul to make it in Texas. Oddly enough though...I miss it a lot some days...:(
Love ya

Sorry, I have not been by much lately. Crazy here....totally exhausted, but I should NOT complain. I am thankful...GOD is working in and through my heart and I know HE is yours, too.

Now, for those "killer attack" mosquito's! You can keep em in Texas. They are bad enough here in Virginia...I can NOT even imagine! They all seem to like me...but I don't like them much. Tell Christi to get you some anti-itch cream from walmart...cheap and works pretty good. It is a benadryl cream, but the walmart brand is just as good and MUCH cheaper. I carry it in my purse...can't live without it in mosquito land!

Hugs and prayers,
andrea

If it's not one thing it's another! No worries about missing the costume party. I barely had any guests this year, people seem to be blogging less right now. Which is just fine with me since I have been blogging a lot less too. I don't even have you good excuse! I'm just feeling computer lazy.
It's good to hear you are getting some movement in, I'm sure it's good for you even if it hurts like he**. Take care of yourself and try not to go too stir crazy!

P.S. I think I forgot to tell you I loved your post on your haunted house! I absolutely believe you but am so glad it happens to you and not me, I'd be a great big chicken!

Oh my goodness your grandson sounds like a real cutie! How funny the things that kids come up with. I feel for ya about those mosquitoes. That is our state bird here in Michigan. They are something fierce this summer too already. Good to hear that you are able to get up for a little bit more each day. Take it one step at a time!

Oh its good to hear a bit of good news and I hope you continue getting better and better and quicker and quicker. That straddling a mower doesn't sound too therapeutic though. Please don't push yourself; too many years ahead for fun, don't cha know?

my family used to vacation in a house on a lake which also happened to be located near a swamp. this was in wisconsin. the mosquitoes weren't especially big, just about the size of a quarter, but they came at us like a fast-moving cloud. in the evenings, we ran from the lake to the house and we still got bit multiple times.
glad you're feeling better. nice to meecha.

Glad you're feeling better and not giving up! Ohio may not have the biggest mosquitoes..however, what we lack in size we make up in numbers here at Whispering Pines! This was a very wet and warm spring for us and now we are paying the price...and I have the bite marks to prove it. I love seeing the bats flying at night but they need help in getting these critters under control! Happy first day of Summer!

My hubby is ALWAYS complaining about the mosquitos here in GA. We have bought out the store in bug sprays, bug bombs, coils...etc. They rarely bother me but he swells up like toad when he gets bit then I have to hear about it all night long. (IF he only knew about yours!) I will have to educate him....
He thinks your posts are a riot so I do share with him sometimes.
HOW are you feeling? Honestly!
I miss blogging but I have been tooooo busy planting flowers, working, and beading. Let's NOT loose touch. I am coming down as soon as I win the lottery, I promise!
Love ya, Sharon

Ohhhhhhh Sweet Maggie....It has made my day that you are getting better!! If I could turn a backflip, I would.

Our skeeters here are so big you could put a saddle on 'em and ride 'em so if yours could suck a turkey flat footed then we both have some big arse skeeters!

Perhaps better him in The Cuckoo's Nest than The Shining. Your grandson does say "the darndest things", bless the recently late Art Linkletter. This will make you want to slap me, since I too live in Texas. Mosquitoes will light on me, but they never bite me. I know what you're going to say next, Mags. You're going to say, "Well, Brenda, just bite me!"

Oh lordy, lordy, thanks for the warning. It would take more than a few of your monster mosquitos to get me airborne, but I think now that I've been warned, I'll just stay clear during summer.
Your grandson is a smart boy, and I don't recall us being taught in school about the bugs at the Alamo. Sure happy to get that info now. XOXO
