Looking Back for Memory Lane Monday!

Like most of you today my thoughts and prayers today are with our women and men who are in the Armed Forces serving our country and for all those who served in the past.

My heart aches when I think of all the lives that have been lost while defending our country. I still miss my friend Ronnie Slay who gave his life at such a young age while fighting in Viet Nam. Lot's of day's I can still see his wonderful smile and beautiful eyes.

Saying thank you to our hero's just does not seem like enough but when I see someone in uniform I always tell them Thank You for serving. Try it you will get a wonderful response from them.

Today it is already the last Monday of the month which is when I try to link up with Donna at Brynwood Needleworks for Memory Lane Monday's.

Usually I tell a long story of something in my past but today I wanted to write about my past memories of when I first started blogging.

On my previous post I wrote about how appreciative I am of having blogging friends and how lucky I am to have you in my life. Well that got me to looking back on my very first month of blogging and I found that I actually had a comment on I think it was my second post. Of course, it was a while before I had another friend comment but I still remember the excitement of finding out that someone had actually read my blog. lol

Do you remember those memories of your first few months of blogging?

Who was my first comment-er well it was  Vicki at Operation You. I then clicked on her site and was excited to find that she is still blogging. I also found that she still has a lovely site and hated I had lost contact with her.  If you click on her site you will enjoy meeting a new friend. You know I am all about meeting new friends and enjoying the ones I am blessed to have found on here.

After reading a few of Vicki's post I checked to see if I followed her. Well blogger showed I was but I was following her anomalously. The only reason I can figure out why it showed that way is because being a  new blogger back then I did not even know how to follow some one correctly. So after all this time I corrected that and now it makes me wonder who else am I following the same way. I will have to try and figure it out.

It's fun to go back and reread you old post and see what you were writing about in that time of your life.
Also I found my old Temptation Monday's post where I posted about some of my blogging buddies art work. Gosh I really miss doing those post. I think it was after my injury that I discovered I could not keep up with doing these Temptation Mondays because of how many friends sell their art. That is when I came up with the idea of my Temptations site.

Now I regret I have neglected it. The last few months I have been trying to figure out how to showcase these artist again like before. My purpose of Temptations was to introduce my friends to exceptional group of bloggers who are artist.  Hopefully in the near future I can once again work on that site and be a better friend to these gifted bloggers. Any ideas on how to do this just let me know I am open to suggestions.

Well friends I need to get off here but I do hope you are enjoying your special day and remembering our troops. Add them to your prayers and Thank them for serving our country.

Also wishing you a beautiful week ahead. Let me know how your doing and try to stay cool. The heat index is already way to high. Incredible for only May.

If you have any vegan recipes you want to share please send them to me at grandmayellowhair@gmail.com.
This coming Friday is when Christi and I are starting the Eat to Live diet.

Love to all
Maggie

Always good to read one of your posts, Maggie. Hope your diet works. My wife ordered me to "walk the wall" at WallyWorld today. I'd carefully paced myself in the heat yesterday, and she'd mistaken it for lack of ability. It was easier just to agree to her "request" than to explain. ;-)

P.S. "Walking the wall" is the term I gave to going in the door and following the outside wall all the way around, as a way to get a little exercise in bad weather.

Blogging has allowed me to find "my people". This is a community of like-minded souls who generously share their creative talents. I adore the memory lane posts that Donna hosts. Happy Memories to you...

Good luck on your new lifestyle...I've heard a lot of people trying to eat more healthy and going 'vegan' so good for you!

Maggie I wish you and Christie good luck with your vegan diet. The mind is a powerful thing when it is focussed, you can accomplish anything.

I can remember my first blog post and how amazed I was that I succeeded.

My motto was JUST DO IT... It's still a good Motto to live by. So maybe you can use that motto with your vegan diet challenge and JUST DO IT. It has gotten me where I am today in Blogland otherwise I would have never took the plunge.

I salute all the brave heroes who valiantly served their country on this special day.

Hugs, jB

Hi Maggie..
thanks ever so much for popping in today and leaving the sweet comment!
If you noticed, I too was looking back at memory lane..
there is a site for reinstating Memorial Day back to it's former date instead of using it for the official opening day of summer Tourism activities...
i feel the need to mount the soapbox about today's generation being all about me,me,ME! NOW!!!
reign me in..
big smiles..

I remember starting my blog but not posting anything for about 6mo. I was a bit intimidated I guess. But I finally did and had only family comment on it now and again. When I started reading other sites and enjoying the great people I found there I branched out and was very excited when a non family person commented. It's great to meet such talented and fun bloggers. I always turn my blog into a book at the end of the year and it's fun to read them and see what has happened over the last 5yrs..and to have it recorded for family to read someday. I do enjoy your blog alot and you always make me smile. Have a good week Maggie! Our weather is suppose to cool off so I'll look forward to that!

I always thank them too Maggie. Sadly, they seemed surprised.
You made me think about my first toe dip into blogging. My first commenter on my first post was Blueenblogi from Finland and I am not sure how she found me. We eventually lost touch for the translator button didn't work too well. I was off the wall that day with surprise and pleasure.
Good luck with vegan. I tried for 2months and then crashed and burned in an orgy of fat, grease and meat. Now I guess I have moderated and am semi-healthy. Go for it. You will feel better.

Hi Maggie, I don't remember the first one to leave a comment, but I do treasure all of my friends here in blog land. There are so many wonderful people, plus it is my way of seeing the world whether state side or across the sea. I honor those who have fought for us and are still fighting for us. For those we have lost and those who lived. I have had family in the Viet Nam War, first Persian Gulf war, still have family in Afghanstan. I sometimes wonder why we are fighting, but we have to keep our freedom. Good luck on your diet, we just do a diabetic diet and eat in moderation. Stay cool. Hugs from Your Missouri Friend.

Hi, Maggie,

What a beautiful heartfelt post today.

I had to stop by and tell you how flattered I was that I had inspired you, even just a little. Blogging has given me so much, it is nice to know that on occasion something I write has helped someone.

IF you ever need any support on your journey to fitness, let me know. I would be more than willing to help you.

Take care,

Michael

Your sweet memories of first blogging got me to thinking. You are much better at remembering your first commenter...I have no idea unless I go back and check. 6 years have past, so it's been too long a time [that's my excuse and I'm sticking by it!! LOL]

Maggie dear, I'm glad you are blogging, and I want you to know that I enjoy your hospitality each and every time I visit!!!

It was a busy holiday weekend for us, so I'm very far behind in paying visits to all who have left me comments in the last three days. Thanks for stopping by and taking time to leave such a positive comment for me. Hope your week will treat you kindly!!!

Maggie,
Thank you for your kind words on my blog! I appreciate you coming by.
I have a son who served in the Army. I know what you mean about telling our soldiers "thank you!"

I realized just the other day that I have been blogging for 3 years. It seems only yesterday that I started my blog and you're right, it is interesting to go back and read what I've blogged about.

Have a wonderful week. Good luck with your new eating habits!

Dear Maggie

I hope that you had a wonderful weekend & I can't wait to hear more about your diet!

I also want to wish you a fabulous June (where is this year going?!)

If you find any good Vegan recipes, be sure to share them with us at Inspire Me Monday! As a matter of fact, check the list - there are some healthy bloggers who post great recipes each week (and you might find some recipes on their sites you can use!)

I'm SO glad we are bloggy friends!

I certainly agree with you about our soldiers. I always cry when I see a flag or a parade. Unfortunatly we didn't get to see a parade or a flad this memorial day because we just hung out here at home.

Your diet sounds interesting. Will it be all vegetarian? I eat very little meat but I do like a bit of that kind of protein. It will be easier to have Christie do it with you.....always nice to have a partner when you do something like this.

I need to go back and look at my first blog. Sue is the one who talked me into doing it. I'm surely not sorry as I have made some lovely friends by doing it. You are one of my treasured one. I only have about ten and don't really want more as I've told you before. Each one of my blogging friends are truly interesting. I have three that are out of our country, one in Zambia, one in Norway and the last in Scotland. It is always so interesting to hear about their countries and to see neat pictures of places they photograph.

Good luck Maggie........Love ya

Hi Maggie!

I also remember my early days of blogging. Sitting there and waiting for that first comment and then the followers... my first follower was Kathy at Sweet Up North Mornings. It was so hard to read her posts during the year long illness of her loving husband. Now that she has found a new love I don't hear much from her.

I have been so busy with my weekly party and don't get to visit many of my old friends. Pretty soon I may not even be able to comment on all my party participants!

Thanks for dropping by to catch up. I need to do the same for you.

xoxo Bunny Jean

Oh... forgot to mention that I look forward to your new vegan series. I would love if you could share this at my weekly part as I don't yet have any vegans sharing their recipes.

One of the things I truly love about your blog, Maggie is that when I read your wonderful posts I feel as though I'm sitting and chatting with you over a nice cup of coffee. You really have a wonderful way with words. :)

I started blogging (my author blog) back in 2004 and I remember being so very excited when someone left a comment for the first time! :)

It's so very difficult to visit and comment on all the blogs I'd love to comment on, because there just aren't enough hours in the day to do that and do my work too.

It makes me sad because so many people have brought me joy with their kind words comments, and I want to return the favor.
