Heads Needed!

Boo!

Hello and welcome to another help me post! The other day while going to pool therapy I spotted these ghost and fell in love with them. I want to figure out how to do this and have them in my yard Saturday when the grandbabies drive up.  Purchased some neat material from Wal Mart but still trying to figure out the best thing for the heads. I bought several different things today at the dollar store but not sure I like what I bought. What would you use?

I talked Gretchen (my new friend/tenant) to run up and check them out. She is such a sweetheart and so much fun. Gretchen could not figure out what the heads were but thought they were plastic.
She is taking time off tomorrow from writing to help me make these so of course I thought of you and knew if anyone knows how to make these you do!
Thanks for your Help!!!

Sweet Dreams
Maggie

Could they be rubber balls?

How 'bout styrofoam balls, Maggs? You could stick 'em on the top of a post and then easily cover them with your fabric. Can't wait to find out what you use.

Thanks for your suggestions. Gretchen and I looked at the prefect size styrofoam balls at Wal Mart that evening and the crazy store wanted ten dollars a ball. Can you imagine for styrofoam..hahaha

I can't wait to see what you come up with. Love the ghosts. Reminders me of friendly ghosts.

Love the ghosts!! I researched and found that most use small white plastic trash bags filled with newspaper/leaves for the head and attach it on top of the stake over the sheet. BUT I like the way the nice round ones look in your pics. Styroam is just riduclous how costly it is. I'll be back to see if anyone has some suggestions.

Hey, I just thought of ballons. You'd have to keep some on hand for replacements when they lose air. Just a thought ☺

I'm glad your tenant has turned out to be such a good friend! I like knowing that someone is close by looking out for you.

I'm with styrofoam and checking my favorite shopping source, the dollar store. I've made some great decorating buys at the two that are near my office.

Maggie I have done something similar years ago and at that time I used balloons and covered them with newspaper dipped in watered down white glue. Once the paper is dry you can spray a cheap water based varnish on it and that will keep it waterproof. It's light and then if the balloons break it doesn't matter the paper will hold up.
If this is too much trouble the idea about the plastic pumpkins on old broom or mop handles sounds good too.

Yep, I'd use those cheap plastic Jack-O-Lanterns, ya know the kind with the little plastic handle for the kids to collect their goodies in. They'd be the right size and they are hollow and would fit over a broom handle or any other sake well. You can secure them with a layer of cloth then cover that for the full effect. Just guessin' here girl but that's what I'd do but I sure bet the bears wouldn't like 'em! Heeehehehe!!!

Good luck, the grandkiddos are gonna love it!

Ya'll have a fun and creatively blessed day!!!

I'm not a fan of halloween but I have to tell you, this is fantastic. Do show us yours when you get them done. Hugs. Tammy

so cute... I like the idea of the styrofoam balls yet have to agree that $10 a piece is too much.... the pumpkin Candy carriers may work... a bit cheaper.. keep us posted.

Good morning Maggie. I think I can help. I made some that I've used over and over again. You can see them at the bottom of this post of mine: http://cottonpickincute.blogspot.com/2010/10/before-after-and-not-quite-there.html

Even though I didn't use hard plastic heads these have worked out really well over the years. I went to the thrift store and bought several white sheets for a dollar each (maybe one per ghost, I'm not sure). I cut wooden stakes, we had some 1x1" boards around and I just spiked one end to make it easy to drive in the ground. I also tried to make them different heights - ghost kids don't come in one size, you know. For the heads I took a plastic grocery sack and stuffed it full of more sacks until I got it the right size. Then I put it on top of the stick and taped it tightly around. I placed them around the tree and hung the sheets on them tying there little ghost hands together to dance. Once they are position I gave them eyes and mouths by just using a permanent black marker so they could sing or Boo. Word of warning with a good wind you might have to straighten them up but they are waterproof. I wash the sheets after Halloween and pack them away in a small box and the sticks with plastic heads just get throw in the attic for another years rest. Sorry for the book, but hope it helps. It's one of my favorite Halloween decorations and so much cheaper than buying something that size at the store.

Have no idea but they really are cute. I too am glad you have such a nice person nearby who wears two hats, friend/tenant. However, you know writers will look for any excuse to put off writing. Careful you don't derail her too much :))

Those are cute little ghosts and look as if they would be easy to do if you figure out the heads. From all the comments here you probably have good suggestions. I hope you take pictures of yours when you get them done, I would love to see them.

Love it that Gretchen was brave enough to go check out those heads. I bet the two of you have a lot of fun together.

Hugs sweet Maggie

I know what I'd use. I'd use my gazing balls on some of the stands I have scattered around my yard. (Since I have the gazing balls in the rusted wagon.) Right off the bat that's what I thought it looked like. Sure is cute!

I, too would just blow up balloons. I know you might have to replace them but if you filled them with helium....and tied them to strings and affixed the strings in the ground....they should last a while.

I don't know what the heads could be made of, maybe balls? They are certainly very cute! I very much enjoyed reading about the birth of Miss Pearl! I am happy to hear you are up and moving around again even if you still have some pain, I'm sure it was rough lying in bed for months. Hope you're having a wonderful Autumn!

Oh, golly, Maggie, that is too stinkin' cute! Styrofoam balls or pumpkins on sale at Michael's? they would make great heads.

I'm calling you tomorrow ...

Have a great eve ~

The ghosts are so cute. I hope you figure out what to use for heads. Your grandkids would think they are so cool!

I feel like a terrible friend because I haven't been able to visit your blog much in the last couple of months. We are still painting our little hearts out! I am hoping to be finished by Thanksgiving and the start blogging more and visiting blogs more. I have missed it.

I think of you everyday and always hope that your day is a good one and that you are healing up quickly. I will try not to stay away so long. Take Care!

Love Ya!

Maggie, what about plastic skulls? That way you could use them every year. And if you could find a way to illuminate them, people would be able to see the skull features underneath the sheets.

(And no, it was not your music that caused the ear worms ... *heh*)

Cheers!

Hola Maggie, such fun your friend running in to see how they are made of... I can´t help you, I can confess I don´t like much this halloween fest and here in Chile there is just some few time of this kind of celebration.

Hmmm....pumpkins?
Those too cute!

I think Ms Pearl could help with this. Hmmm...Ms Ornery's head comes to mind. I'm sure Pearl knows a few more that just might fit the bill and as long as nobody comes around snooping to see what you used for heads, you might just get away with it.hehe
Thank you so much for the sweet words you left at my place. I so hope you are feeling a little better this week.
hugs to you dear friend...
