What Are The Chances?

Hello Dear Friend and how are you today? My day was a memory making day spent in Austin at the Juvenile Diabetes Walk For a Cure.  Great turnout and I am so lucky to have made it again to be a part of Kaci's team.

You are so sweet for leaving such wonderful comments about Kaci on my previous post. I adore all of you. She is a true grit kind of girl and I will do a post about her soon.

Some of you may remember this picture of Kaci. Several years ago she posed for a fund raiser for Juvenile Diabetes and this picture was used on the invitations.

Would you believe I left in such a hurry yesterday I forgot my camera but my son Chad and my DL Andrea promised to send me pictures so I will wait on them to share the day with you.

After the walk Chad and I who is also a Juvenile Diabetic since the age of 13 went out to lunch together. It was great spending some quality time alone with him. He is such a good man and a terrific son.

Wow while sitting here writing this post my Son Clint, Dl Andrea, Kaci and Bailey phoned me on Skype to see if I wanted to watch them carve their two pumpkins. DID I? Well of course and what a delight! It was a wonderful surprise and can not thank them enough for including me on their pumpkin carving. Amazing that you can join in on family and friends with your computers.

Thank you guys for thinking of me and making that Skype phone call. I loved it and their pumpkins turned out too cute. If you have not tried Skype you must do it. I need to learn how to adjust my computer where I don't look like a squirrel on the other end. lol

While visiting with them I mentioned to Andrea about her pictures she took today and she is sending me some and agreed that I could share a few with you so YAHOO and I will do that next post.

Tonight I want to tell you about my experience yesterday. It totally blew me away so of course I have to share it with you.

Last week I put a For Sale sign up at my home in town. Homes are not selling in our area but who knows miracles happen every day and I have put my name in for one.

A young lady saw the sign the very same day and ask if she could see the house. I was more than happy to show it to her and much to my surprise she fell in love with it. We visited for almost an hour and she explained to me that a life long friend was willing to finance a home for her if it was in a certain price range.

This was good news to me because it meant I would not have to wait to see if they were cleared for a loan.

Yesterday we met again but this time she brought along the lady who will be loaning them the money. I was anxious to meet this lady and see what she thought of my home.

They were in the back yard when I arrived so I walked through the sun room to open the back door for them. I immediately thought the woman looked familiar but when she turned to shake my hand I said, "Mrs. Lauter and she said, "Yes!"

I just stood there absolutely in shock. I asked if she had taught elementary school in Deep Water, Texas and her mouth flew open. Pretty wide too. lol

What are the chances that standing in my back yard fifty something years later in my life was my third grade school teacher who was now 84 years old and I have not seen since grade school. Plus she was there to look at a home I had for sale in a town some 140 miles from where we once lived.

Not only did that blow my mind but the fact that I recognized her without any hesitation. The surprising part is I don't remember but two of my elementary teachers and she naturally was one of them. Never thought I would ever see either one of them again but to meet up with her this way has totally been weird.

You see I am one of those people who has very limited memory of child hood so me recognizing her has me wondering what happened yesterday. lol

It amazed her that I remembered her but I think the fact that I recognized her after all these years was the real mind blower. Truly she did not look 84 years old and still had red hair which had to be maybe help from a bottle. lol

She of course did not remember me which I totally did not expect her too. Well maybe I did! I told her that I still had a picture of her and myself taken in my front yard way back then. I don't think she really believed me there but I do remember seeing that picture in some old black and whites my mom gave me years ago.

It was quite an experience and one I want to tell you more about once this thing about the house is completed. She wanted me to come down twenty thousand dollars on a price I have already set as really low so I told her I could not see me doing that. I hardly slept last night thinking about this strange encounter with a old school teacher.

Well sweet dear friend is that not a story. My feet are starting to get cold so I need to get up and see about turning on some heat. I do think I will try the electric heaters for a while to see if they are cheaper and maybe this week I can call the electrical company.

I doubt I can tomorrow because my landlady is suppose to be here going over some problems out here. One is the cowboy's house. We still have not solved the water coming inside his home. Another big issue is two more huge trees have fallen again. The property is full of old Oak and Pine trees but the rate their dying
is scary. I just hope she is not too disappointed in how the place looks but this ole grandma is doing the best she can to keep up but that's a problem too. lol

Just had to spend a few minutes with you tonight because I do miss you and think of you often.

Thanks for always being here for me. I appreciate all your helpful comments. I know with your help and advice I can not go wrong.

To all of you in the path of horrible Sandy my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have been praying that Sandy will fizzle out and not cause the damage everyone is afraid of. Please don't take any chances where you live. If they tell you to leave then please do. Hurricanes are not our friends and we can not stay home waiting for them. It is best to go to where you know you will be safe. Take it from one who was born and raised on the Gulf Coast. Just be Safe and let us know how you are doing.

Love to all
Maggie

I love days when the unexpected happens...except when that unexpected isn't as pleasant as your day was! I hope the house sells for your price and that burden can be lifted. I'll be using skype after my #2 son and his family get all settled in their new home in Portland Ore...so far away! Good luck on the heat and think of me on Tuesday when cold and wet turn into an early snow fall...dang that hurricane Sandy!

we are on the tail end of this storm so I think rain is all we will get I just hope we keep the power.

What a sweet story about your encounter with your teacher. :-) Thanks for sharing it...I live in Massachusetts and "Sandy" is barreling down on us. We're prepared as much as possible. Only time will tell whether all the forecasts are correct! O_O

Don't you just love stories like this. There must have been a reason that you had your childhood teacher in your yard. I am hoping that you can sell your house but don't go too low. You just listed it. If they think it is too high wait a bit and see what will happen.
I had a similar experience a few years back. It was an x husband of my aunt's. I had met him only once. We were in a McDonalds at the airport. I asked him if he was Bob.....I don't even know how I remembered his name. He was a jerk when he was married to my aunt. I made sure to tell him how well she was. He tried to act like he didn't remember all of her family but i knew he was surprised that I knew him.
Yes, praying for thos storm not to be as bad as predicted. Loss of power is so awful let alone damage and injuries. I saw a young family with three small children saying they weren't leaving. That may be there choice but not those little ones.
Hey, maybe we can skype sometime.
Love the picture of your sweet granddaughter. Can't wait to see more.

I can not but think that something can be worked out with the lady and the school teacher, to buy your home! what a wonderful coincidence!

I am also praying for everyone effected by Sandy. My three sons and grandchildren are all there in N.J. So I will keep praying that it will "fizzle" out as you said!!

No doubt the trees that are falling where you live are from no rain all summer! Poor trees are so stressed out!

Well dear..Love you and Miss you! I will keep you in my prayers and Pray that the sale of your house will be soon, and that you and them will come to an agreement!!

Love and Hugs,

Susan

What a story!

I was a little sorry to hear that your old teacher was trying to talk you down to a price that wasn't quite what you should be getting though.

Wow! I'm amazed you remember your third grade teacher...I have so few memories from school and remember only a handful, or fewer, of my teachers.
How industrious she's been all these years to be able to buy a home for someone else!

wow, that story gave me chill bumps.

I would definately take it as a sign, that good things are on the way, if not already close by.

There are no accidents so seeing her all these years later, was meant to be. Now all you have to do is figure out the significance of it, beyond her allowing the girl to borrow the money,I mean.

Think hard, really hard, about what was going on at that time in your life , cause I think you will find something very important in that past information that will change your life for better NOW.

write me, if ya want to and we'll discuss it..

love n hugs
Sonny

That is amazing. I don't even recognize myself when I look in a mirror, never mind an elementary teacher. She must have been very special to you.

Isn't it lovely to spend time with a son and realize he is such a nice person you would like him even if he wasn't related?

What a great post Maggie.
I think that it's about time your luck changes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you sell the house for the price you are asking for. You can't blame the old girl for trying but I'm glad that you let your head rule.

I too met my my teacher after six decade and she didn't look like the pretty young girl that I remembered but it was thrilling to have met her after so long... She remembered me because she stayed at my grandmother's house to be closer to the school. I even blogged about our encounter and we got our picture taken together at her house.

What a beautiful picture of Kaci, your little wonder girl.

I've skyped a few times but I'm not very good at small talks but I can be talkative if it's a subject I know something about. Hahaha.

I hope that you have your cat and heat problem sorted out.

Maggie I keep you and your family in my prayers but I can't take the credit for all that happened this week. Now I'll pray that you sell the house for a fair price.
Hugs.

I'm so glad to hear that Kaci's Walk went so well and had a good turnout!! Having had a niece who had juvenile Diabetes, I can understand how important it is to raise money to find the cure!

Oh wow, that truly is amazing that you remembered your old teacher after all these years. I always say it's a big world and yet so small!! What a shame she wanted you to put down the price by so much, though...I've heard of people offering a few thousands less but twenty thousand?!!!!

Since today is Hallween, here's a little poem I'm sharing with everyone today...

This is Halloween

Goblins on the doorstep,
Phantoms in the air,
Owls on witches' gate posts,
Giving stare for stare.

Cats on flying broomsticks,
Bats against the moon,
Stirring round of fate-cakes,
With a solemn spoon.

Whirling apple parings,
Figures draped in sheets,
Dodging, disappearing,
Up and down the streets.

Jack-o'-lanterns grinning,
Shadows on a screen,
Shrieks and starts and laughter--
This is Halloween!

Happy Halloween, dear Maggie, make sure you come by my blog today for my Halloween Bash and see what costume I dressed you up in! hehe xoxo

I went to see my longtime second grade friend two years ago. She is in a nursing home in Balch Springs, TX. I did not expect her to know me as her son said she had beginnings of some kind of dementia, possibly Alzheimer's. It had been at least 40 years. I recognized her as she had lost weight looked identical to her mother whom I also knew well. The nurse asked her if she remembered this lady. She stared at me only a few seconds and said excitedly that is Carol Ann. I was pleased and would not have exchanged those 15 minutes for anything in the world.

I am so glad you have had one of those moments. When I reflect on my life, that moment instantly pops back in my mind.

Hope you sell your house. And Halloween and Thanksgiving create new longlasting memories for you and your family.

I am posting less but did today; am busy with cardiac rehab, etc. Procedure seems to have been successful but have two more months of healing before final assessment.
