What Is This?

Hello, hope you are had a wonderful weekend!
Several years ago we bought this box out at the Round Top/ Warrenton Show. Actually it was at the Marburger Tent where my ex found this and had to have it. To me it was way too much to give for a box but how could I say anything when he never complained about my purchases. lol

I wanted to get a picture of this box without the help of Tinkerbell but as you can see she was acting as if this was the first time she had ever laid eyes on it.

As you know I have been cleaning out my closet and getting rid of things but knowing what my ex had given for this I can not just disgard it.  I have used it as a wine holder years ago but would really like to know what the original use of this box could of been. Any ideas?

Some letters on on side look like the word ends in ERBY for sure EBY RBY.

The vendor I believe told us it came from the Northern part of the East Coast but too many years ago for me to remember exactly what state.

So let me know if you have a clue what it is and if it is worth $40.00. lol

I met Gretchens friend the Director. Fell in love with him and promised I would not show pictures of him and Gretchen. They are just friends working on a movie together but since she is trying to hide out and write this screen play I will keep my mouth shut for now.

It was terribly funny watching the two of them together. They were on and off doing little skits for me and of course I loved it.

Gretchen took Frank around different parts of Texas the short time he was here and how they covered so much territory in a short time is beyond me. You can tell their young. He has been to Texas one other time to film something in Austin but she wanted him to see where she is wanting her screen play filmed.

Frank fell in love with this ole place and told us he would love to move here and give up LA but that is where his work is for right now I told him he was young and someday he could own a place like this of his own.

Gretchen of course made me really smile when she told me how he adored me and that immediately he knew he would love me. hahaha.....Smart Director friend she has don't you think. He knows about me trying to write and he ask a lot of questions about that. Gretchen filled him in on my writing so far and he was very nice about pretending to be interested. Like I said he was a nice guy.

Seriously I enjoyed the short time I was around him and looking forward to seeing him again. As much as he and Gretchen cut up over here at my house I thought maybe they had something to do with the sneezing in the bathroom incident.  Of course, I told them about it and they claimed neither one of them knew what I was talking about yet I am not so sure. Makes more sense than a ghost sneezing  Of course I did go out side and walk around but I am not ruling them out..

Someday I would love to tell you some of the hollywood gossip that those two shared with me but I don't know if you guys are ready for some of the things I heard. You may be too young.  A few they talked about was Tom Cruise and John Travolta.

Need to go and do some research for my writing that I am working on. But I just have to say one more thing. You and your comments are just toooooooo funny. I laughed and laughed about the ones left about the sneezing ghost. Priceless is what you are to me!

Sweet Dreams

Maggie

this could be so off, but it looks like a packing crate for delicate fruit like
really good pears? I know you have to be a bit careful with them especially back them when they didn't pick them green.
Oh and about Hollywood. Having grown up in so. Calif. I have heard SO MUCH. I am carrying secrets good and bad, dear. I like the good ones best

I haven't a clue about the box..maybe Derby? Like Kentucky Derby? That's north for you! Now, the secret Hollywood guests are making me crazy thinking who they could be...it's not fair! I love a surprise, so I guess I'll just have to wait and see!

I couldn't even begin to take a guess about the box. I do know one thing though...that was really expensive for a bunch of wood. I do love its patina though.

I can understand why your friend would want to move to TX. I have been to TX a few times visiting my husband's sister and her family. Honestly the first time I was there I was not impressed but the more I visit the more I like it. I love the people there. We have even talked about moving there after I retire. I now know what they mean when they say everything is bigger in Texas.

Hi Mags!
I love your box! lol When I was a young and innocent teenager, I worked in a bakery located inside a large grocery store in my hometown. There was a "salty" gal who worked in the bakery who always made me laugh. (Coincidentally, her name was also Donna.) One of the things she used to say, which I've never forgotten was, "I never saw her wrastle (pronounced, rassle) but I'd love to see her box. Used to crack me up!
Anyway, I have no clue the original purpose for your crate, and like the others, would love to know who your famous guests are. If I hold my breath, will you tell me? (taking deep breath now.)
xoxo
Donna

I've seen boxes slightly similar used to hold the big tall brown bottles that certain types of bulk medicines used to come in to the old drug stores. The name "Derby" doesn't seem to agree with that use, though.

I agree with the other poster-- who wouldnt LOVE you..
as for the box , I too am clueless.
I missed the sneezing ghost post - but we had some who used to shower in the upstairs bath.
Those sounds were unmistakable- water hitting the tub floor and walls- dropping the shampoo and such-- yet, when ya went up there you saw NADA and the tub was dry. I actually had folks sleep over in the bedroom under ths area and they were certain someone was showering above them... I never minded really. I kinda like knowing other entities share my space and that the reality I SEE, isnt the only one that exists :)

I'm not sure what it was {maybe a bottle carrier of some sort} but it looks like it may become Tinkerbell's new scratching post, Maggie! : ) I'm glad you are having a good visit with Gretchen and her director friend; I'll bet he's an interesting person to talk with.

Tinkerbell helped to show us the size of the mystery box. Maybe your ghost is attached to that box. Lose the box, lose the ghost. If it were me, I'd keep both.
What an interesting guest. Sorry you can't share the gossip though I have an inkling what it would be about those two men.

No guess on the box origins, but I like your guess about the sneeze ones.

Sweet Maggie I have no idea about the box. Tinkerbell sure looks cute though. I think it was just quite okay that she helped to show us your box. I am so happy that you had fun with
Gretchen and her director...I am not at all surprised that he loved you...everyone does, how could anyone not love you. Hugs

Believe it or not, that wooden crate is worth the $40 and more. I go to auctions every second Sunday and you wouldn't believe what those kind of vintage crates go for. Love the pictures of Tinkerbell sniffing around the crate:-)

Glad to hear that you and the Director fell in love with each other! hehe Sounds like he really enjoyed his visit:-)

Ooooh do tell about John Travolta and Tom Cruise...enquiring minds want to know! lol xoxo

hi Maggie,
Love the box Maggie. I have faith in you that you can come up with a good story about the origin of the box. Hope all is well in your part of the world. We are getting more snow tonight. I think we are having the winter that's never going to end this year. What I wouldn't give to see green grass again!

Have a great week,
Kate

I'm wondering if it is a box that the farriers carry all their different nails, horse shoes and tools in??? My farrier has one that looks a lot like it. Just a guess!

Hummmmmmm someone sneezing in your bathroom eh? Sounds harmless! :o)

Hope you don't get stuck in the dumpster retrieving your warm clothes! What a hoot! xoxox

I was wondering about big jugs like water, milk or other liquids in glass containers might need separation between each other. But then I very well may have been WINE!!!!!
