Loyalty

Could not let this day go by without showing you a picture of my Ma Ma. Ruby Duncan Gunnel's. She was born on February 9, 1909 with an identical twin sister. She lived to be 84 years old.

Like all grandchildren with their grandmothers I wanted her to live to be 100 years or more. I loved her more than anything and today she brings me such peace and love to my heart when I think of what she gave me during her lifetime.

Dan at Yesterday Once More word of the week is Loyalty. Of course I thought of my Mama first when I read this word. There was nothing in this world that she would not have done for me. She was only 4'11" but to me she was a giant of a woman.

She taught me loyalty, love, kindness, forgiveness, patience and strength.  I have never met anyone in my life that lived such a loving life towards everyone on earth. Even love for those that did not show her love. Only once did I hear her say anything ugly toward anyone and it involved me so I know now after being a grandmother why it came out of her mouth. I am sure she would of taken it back if she could have but me being me loved she said it and made me realize just how much this little lady meant to me.

An ex sister-in-law of mine married to my brother Gary was always trying her best to turn the family against me. Why I will never figure out but she was just that way. I had went to my Mama's house crying about the latest thing she had done and  I remember she was sitting in her little rocking chair looked up at me and said, "Did you beat the s... out of her!" Now I know she would not want me telling this about her but I have to tell you that coming out of her virgin mouth made me laugh hysterically. NEVER had anyone seen this side of her. Yep I guess deep deep down she had a Ms. Pearl in her but as far as I know it only came out one time. hahaha

Happy Birthday sweet MaMa I miss you terribly!

Another thing of course when I read the word Loyalty was all of you. My goodness look how you have stuck with me through thick and thin. I mean if that is not loyalty then what is? I love you for it too.

Below are pictures that I have received from several different people in emails about this Asian man I believe in California that has the most amazing yard. Today instead of deleting it I shared it with you because I thought it was another meaning of Loyalty. In order to have gardens like this you have to be loyal.

Hope you enjoyed these pictures especially in the bitter cold that we are still having all around the country. We need to keep remember that God has this kind of beauty in mind for us in just a few months.

Stay warm and keep being loyal to me........lol

Love to all

Maggie

What a lovely person your mama was,as lovely as the great gardens you showed us.

It must take that man all day to keep his gardens in top shape and clean of dead leaves and petals. I love today's post. Loyalty is so precious a vertue. Happy Birthday to your Mama.JB

I think deep down we all have a Ms. Pearl in us that just needs to jump out. I know I do. Your mother seemed to be a very lovely person and a Saint of a woman. Only if we could all be that way. Our world would be a little better.

That man's yard is stunning. The colors are amazing.

Your memories of your Grandma are so sweet. I lived next door to my grandparents growing up. I have lots of fond memories as well. I think Ms. Pearl just might have some genetic connections. ((((HUGS)))))

What a great tribute to your sweet grandma.
I must say that I hope he has underground sprinklers. That was a beautiful garden however.
I think that we should all have a Ms Pearl in us from time to time.
Have a great day

What a beautiful woman, your grandmother was. You may have had a short time here on earth with her, but you have memories that will last forever.

What a wonderful and special grandmother she must have been. This was a very beautiful post about her. I am glad you posted the garden pictures too. They were a nice pick me up with all the pretty colors. I can't begin to imagine all the hard work and dedication that man put into it - maybe he was taught it by a wonderful grandmother.

I am sorry I am just now getting back to answering your question about my blog header. It was pretty simple to make with Photoshop. It's something I like to tinker with.
Have a great day Maggie.

I loved my grandma too. She lived to be 98 1/2! Thank you for your sweet story. I love the pictures of the flowers. I've seen them before, and wish I had the 'green' thumb, as well as the energy to do that!

That's a fab story Maggie - your grandmother coming out with that must have been her tigress-protecting-her-young streak!

Wow and that is a beautifully tended garden - puts mine to shame! So much love and nurturing has gone into that, he must be a wonderful man!

Your Mama must have been a wonderful lady. How lucky you are to have had time with her - my grandparents died before I was born so I never had a chance to know them.

That man's yard is absolutely beautiful. He should be on CNN - something pretty to look forward to after such a cold winter.

Happy thoughts,
Brenda

I love your sweet MAMA!!!! I love her fiestiness!
You gave a wonderful tribute of her.

Those gardens almost make me want to cry. It's about -10 right now and I am sure it's never going to be warm again!

What a wonderful Grandma you had. I remember when I was in my late teens and starting to 'express myself' in ways that I knew my mom would not like. Now, I was very careful around mom, not to say these words. But as you've already guessed, one day, one of them slipped out. It starts with an 's'. She looked at me and said, "My mother always said, 'I wouldn't say that word if I had a mouth full of it!'" and that was all she said. I still kept my language on the down-low and eventually phased it out completely, as I realized it was not lady-like. My rebelliousness had passed and now I was interested in more domestic things :)

Beautiful gardens!

My grandmother was Memaw, and I have such fond memories of her that came flooding back when I read your tribute. 4'11"--the Lord proved good things come in small packages!

Love that garden--Wow!

It's nice to know that everyone has a little of Ms. Pearl in them..makes life more surprising! I hope that nasty ex-sis-in-law isn't the one that resembles me...I would never treat you that way..I'm Loyal!

Good to know Miss Pearl is part of your gene structure. The older generation had her "in house", they just didn't let her out often, just when it counted. My grandmother was the same and it was a delightful shock when she would let her out.
That garden is unbelievable. Just beautifu.

Hi Maggie,

Those garden pictures really did make me feel a little better here in the bitter cold!

I love the story of your grandma, she sounds a lot like my mother in law who I miss so much!

Sorry you had trouble loading my Writing section. It might be mad at me because I have been a bad bad blogger and not paid much attention to it. I've been cooking a lot and posting about it, but it's time to get back to writing!

What a sweet and wonderful tribute to your grandmother. I could have said the same about mine. She lived to be 98 and wanted to make it to 100 and be on TV. I assured her I would see that she did. Regretfully, that never happened. You blew my mind with this man's yard. I have never seen such beauty in one yard in my life. I felt blessed just seeing it. Thank you.
