My Memorable College Friend!

Hello everyone,

Thanks for stopping by and checking on me and I have missed you! Found this picture in my file tonight and thought I wanted to share it with you. Honestly I can not tell you where I found it but thought it was so beautiful.

Years ago and I mean years ago in college I met a girl that changed my life! During the summer break I moved to Houston with friends from college to work and save money for the next semester. Angels were watching over me and landed me a position at a Finance Company where Max worked.

Day one with her is a image in my heart and my mind that I will remember forever. She was like no one I had ever met and instantly knew that I wanted her as a friend. Turns out all these years later we are still best of friends.

Every morning her mom fixed Max a healthy lunch which was usually yogurt and fruit and every morning she bounced in the office with her gorgeous smile holding her lunch sack. Just like clock work the first trash can she passed coming through the door that sack would accidentally be dropped into it.
She never missed a step to her desk doing this daily routine and I never failed not to laugh.

The office we worked in was small with us and two males. These guys were totally nuts and kept both  us in stitches most of the day. Summer ended quickly and I gave my notice to quit and return to college.
Much to my surprise and delight Max also gave her notice and within a week or so was enrolled in the same college and somehow even managed to find a dorm room.

For the next two years I learned to laugh and live life for the first time in my sheltered life. Honestly I don't think I knew how to have fun or laugh until this girl came into my life.  I had bought my first car from my brother, Doy for seventy five dollars and even though the reverse was out in it...that never stopped us from riding around with a Dr. Pepper and Hostess Twinkie in our hands and laughing about our day in classes.

Hard to believe but sometimes we would get to our class room and actually greet the professor and then in the next minute we were turning around and going back out the door to skip class. Still hard to believe that I would do something like that....if only I could be like that now.. Just turn around and leave....haha

The main building of our college was a hundred years old and it was called Ole Main! No ac and huge flights of stairs and one day coming down the stairs after class Max somehow missed a step and bounced all the way down on her butt. About every step she hit she was for some reason hollering Mighty and I was at the top of the landing laughing my fool head off. It was not funny but OMG I lost it and was laughing uncontrollable. Not more than a week later I tumbled going into the college library to meet my boyfriend and what an entrance I made...one that I am sure there were others laughing uncontrollably.

Not sure how our nicknames came about but she called me Mighty and I called her Daddy Duck! Silly of course but to this day she still calls me Mighty but I call her Max short for Maxine. Just the other day we were laughing about our nick names and for the life of us we can not remember where these names came from.

Sometimes we would forget about not having a reverse in the old car and boy would that get us in trouble but somehow we managed always to get her back to the dorm before curfew. One night some guys we knew were following us and we did not want to be with them that night so we tried to loose them. I turned into a driveway that was long and pulled all the way up forgetting I had no reverse.
Guess who helped us get out of the driveway. Yep the guys we were trying to avoid. haha
At least I managed to get her home in time...there were times when she was on a date and did not make it back on time and then the dorm mother always caught her. Sorry Max!

We were for a while in hog heaven because she dated the Center on the football team and I dated the quarterback. What was shocking is they put up with us on double dates and now looking back I am not sure how they did that. lol

Looking back now and all the crazy things we did is hard to believe but they were innocent things. No drugs just plain harmless fun. Sometimes like now when I need to think positive I think of those simple but fun times with Max.  Yep I have reached the age where I find myself telling Max these were the best days of my life.

Turns out Max married a very handsome good man and they have a son together and have been happily married for a long time now.  How happy I am that one of us did manage to find true love.

She reads my blog and I so wanted to put a picture of her on here but I thought that would be pushing my luck. hahaha  Maybe she will let me show you some pictures of us then and now. I will ask. Max has not changed in all the years. Still as beautiful now and she was then.

Please tell me about your life long friends.

Also tonight I wanted to share with you a very beautiful building that I love and it is an old Lutheran Church moved into Round Top for their library.  Population in Round Top is listed as 77.
This library is down the rode from the Festival Hill that I have shared with you in the last few post.  These pictures were taken just before sunset.

Soon I will share the beautiful pictures of the inside.

I am so lucky to live close enough to enjoy this awesome library and Festival Hill!

The last few days I have been going to Pool Therapy and helping Gary set up his appointments.
His girlfriend is an airline stewardess and I am so thankful he has her in his life right now because she has been such a blessing.
Her home is a Historical Home and was built for Sam Houston and his family in the 1800's. One day maybe I can post pictures of the inside of it. Here is her home. Gary is in the process of restoring it.
Thank you for your prayers for Gary! He was told yesterday that his cancer is in Stage 4 but was curable and I know with the power of prayer that he will be strong again and him and Sherry will be married as planned this next year.

Sweet Dreams and Love to All
Maggie

Too much on my plate, but I think of you all the time.

It is so good to see a post from you sweet Maggie. Still holding your sweet brother Gary up in prayer. His girlfriend's home is gorgeous!

Thank you, for sharing your friend. I enjoyed so much reading about your fun times together.

I do not have a life long friend but I do have one that has been my best friend for over 30 years. For many years we spent every day together. We sang and recorded songs on tape, played Scrabble, worked crossword puzzles, cleaned our homes, went to resale shops and out to eat. Our children grew up together.

We would get together on weekends and all the kidos would play while us four grownups played Spades or Hearts. We had years and years of fun. Sadly she and her hubby divorced. I grieved as if she had passed away because I did not see her for about 2 years after the divorce and I missed her terribly. Her ex has remarried she has not. We are still best of friends but we do not get to see each other as often as we would like too even though we live only about a mile and a half apart. When we are able to get together we share everything that has been going on with each of us and we still play Scrabble.

Thanks, for asking me to share my friend with you.

Love and hugs sweet friend. Still praying for you, Gary and Kaci to be all well.

Sweet dreams!

That house is wonderful! And it sounds like your friend and the friendship you share is wonderful, too.

Stage 4 or not, I am putting my faith in your brother to beat that cancer. If the doctor says it's curable, then he can do it. There are a lot of people praying for him!

A lot of people are praying for you, too, so keep working hard but not too hard on that pool therapy.

Hugs,

Good morning Maggie, it's wonderful to hear you almost back to your old self. I'm sorry, I do not comment very often, but I check your blog every day. I so hope your back will get stronger. I'm also sending healing thoughts to your brother, I know how it is to feel so helpless. My elder brother, Des (83) has 2 kinds of cancer, and my younger brother Terry (81) has had a triple bypass, and I worry about them both all the time. I'm 64, yes the Baby, and believe me, they do still treat like their baby sister. I have MS (14 years now) but I love life, and me and my DH spend most of the day laughing. I'm sure no-one else would understand our conversations, but it's like we hear something on TV, or read in a newspaper that we find amusing (it probably isn't a bit funny to anyone else) then one of us will make a silly remark, and it just takes off from there. Sorry this obviously won't make any sense to you, but you wanted to know about friends, and my DH is my darest and best friend. He is my 3rd husband and we've been together for 21 years. We didn't get married until 1999, when I was diagnosed with MS. I gave him a 'get out of jail card' as when we met I was a newspaper editor, then hotel owner, then wine bar owner (he's always worked for me as well as being my lover) but he didn't give the MS a second thought, arranged the wedding and surprised me with it, I really don't know why I;m telling you all this, except that I think you'll understand. My MS means I can't get out much, but I'm so thankful for all the friends I've met on the internet. They feed my heart and soul. Blessings Maggie, and all healing thoughts to both you and your brother. luv from the UK

Loved this post about your long time friend. You two were characters in the best sense.
I am still hanging on the my friend from the second grade. Laughter has kept the miles between us short.
So glad Gary is getting treatment with a good prognosis and that he has such a wonderful girl to ease the path.
Will keep him in my prayers.

I have a best friend who was sittin' under a big old tree alone at recess on our first recess. I took my five year old self over and asked her if she wanted to play. We became inseparable in grade school, high school and college. We belonged to the same sorority and married frat brothers moving to different parts of the state. We still enjoy phone calls, letters and just Tuesday she emailed me to wish me a happy birthday.

Sweetie please know I am holding your brother, Gary up to the Lord's mighty healing hands. I am remembering your precious little granddaughter too. We serve a God of miracles and I'm just believing that He has a fistful for you.

Miss Angel is not doin' well. She has been home on a sabbatical between treatments to beef up before hittin' the chemo hard and heavy but she has lost another ten pounds. I had her at my house Saturday and her frailty just broke my heart. She is suppose to start treatment again on the 22nd and I can't see them doin' that until they put some weight on her to fight this. I appreciate your prayers so very much my friend.

God bless ya'll and have a supernatural weekend filled with miracles!

Such a lovely story. I found two long lost friends this past summer on facebook and it's though we never missed a step. Talked for hours on the phone and giggles just like back when. Too much fun to be legal surely.

I will keep Gary in my prayers.

Oh dear Mags, nobody I know can tell a story like you can! You make us all laugh so. The photos are wonderful. And that gal lives in one fine house. I don't have any lifelong friends that I've kept up with. I went to college while my girls were growing up. I'm so glad you have Max.

While reading this, I couldn't help but drift back to my college days and the feeling of being young once again. I was laughing with all y'alls antics ('cause frankly some of them were VERY similar to some of mine...in fact...remind me to tell you someday about my tumble down the stairs at NTSU!). True friends are a commodity that can't be bought and sold...only developed over time with a huge return on the initial investment.
I am continuing to hold y'all in my prayers. Faith and believing...you tell Gary he is doing everything right. No doubts...believing only in God's precious healing.

Isn't it awesome to have such great friends! What an adventure and I pray she will allow you to share pictures.

I am storming the heavens for Gary. GOD BLESS YOU for sharing!

Once again, I apologize for my absence. I assure you that you are in my prayers whether you see me or not. Wish we lived closer. I have a feeling you and I could get into some "friendly trouble" together...LOL! Maybe one day GOD will allow our lives to cross this side of heaven.

Big HUGS,

Dear Maggie, thank you for stopping by my little corner and leaving such a sweet message. I'm glad you double-checked the google follow. I am already on yours. I had stopped by and commented on your Bridges of Madison County post a while back.

I simply loved reading this post. I was in tears the entire time--laughed at the no reverse car and Mighty, cried at the thought of friends I miss and how much I yearn for one true friend these days. Seems like the older we get, the harder it is. Besides our Lord who is my truest friend, my husband of 25 years continues to be at the top of my list but I still miss having a girlfriend though.

Love the nicknames and can so understand about not remembering how they even started at times. My husband and I call each other Clyde. I know...too much. He's Clyde, I'm Clyde. =D Neither of us remembers how on earth it started but boy has it stuck. Sometimes we'll be in a store or something and I'll forget and call out Clyde instead of his name, which always ends up in a burst of laughter. Laughter is BIG for us and I think that's why we're such good friends. He lured me back in college with the first joke. Haven't stopped laughing since, among may tears and trials throughout the past 25 years of course, but if you can get me to laugh, I will snap out of the worst mood. I'm one of those who laughs at herself when she trips and falls. Yeah, my kids think it's hillarious but it's really the truest test of a good sense of humor. Inherited from my dad.

I will most certainly be praying for Gary.

Have a GORGEOUS Monday and I so look forward to visiting.
