Missing You!

Well they say a picture is worth a thousand words!

Truly I do miss you and wonder how you are doing! I would be lying to you if I told you things have slowed down on the North Forty. If nothing else I would say the next two weeks will be even crazier.

Today a crew is coming to work on the three chimneys out here on this ole farm house I live in. For a while now they have been moving away from the house which is not good. The one up front has moved a good six inches in a year so I think dealing with it could be a dangerous job. I am not sure whether to be inside or out while they work on it. If it falls it will take the wall with it. I just pray that does not happen because I can not imagine how crazy my life would be then plus I worry some one might get seriously hurt.

My landlady stayed last week too and left Friday. She is in Dallas this week for the Glenn Beck rally. Thank goodness I did not have to go with her. lol

I think after that she may go home to Nevada. Not sure because after they level these chimneys she has ordered a crew to come in a put a new tin roof on this house so if it takes three days to level these three chimneys I can just only imagine it being three days to do this big steep roof. If I could crawl in bed and cover my head up for the next week or more I would try it.

Then I need a carpenter out here to fix the ceilings that the rain has damaged. Just finding one that is not too busy will be a big problem.

Right after my landlady drove off Friday I was near the chimney up front watering some potted plants and I heard a strange noise. I look up and a swarm of bees are forming near by. At the same time a lady pulls up with her little girl and I guess she sees them the same time I do because she made a mad dash for my front door almost knocking me over to get to it.

Nothing like a stranger running past you on your porch and bees not too far behind. No time to dally we just ran.

We got inside safely and I called a pest control company even though it was after hours. I made sure I called one that advertised that they can control bees.

Turns out they were hornets and had a nest in between my house and the chimney. Geez Marie that could of been a bad story to write about on here. He said they are very aggressive hornets and are the kind that build nest out of paper. Never heard of such. Supposedly they also build in the ground and that I should be aware of that when I am mowing. That is one thing that does bother me out here mowing is not knowing if I might come up on a nest in a tree or ground.

Sorry to mention the word mowing in every post I write. Your not going to believe this but I still have not mowed every inch of the thirty acres I mow out here. I keep thinking every day I will be caught up but something keeps me from doing so. Mainly the heat. Usually from about 2 to 5 I try not to be in it unless I just have too.

One thing that has been caused me trouble mowing is huge holes in the back of the North Forty. I think coyotes have dug them to have their babies in or they are setting traps for the ole lady that lives in the old farm house.

Speaking of babies it has only been three months since Mama Kitty had her last litter. Well I intended on having her fixed this coming week along with her only kitten that has survived and would you believe she is already pregnant again. I could not believe it last week when I noticed her belly. What's really surprising is she is pretty far along. Good grief just what I need around here. lol

Christi is planning on coming down for the weekend which is always a delight for me. I told her we need to plan our trip to Portland, Maine that we had to put off from this past April. Neither one of us could make it at that time so now our plans are for September if nothing messes us up. We have our tickets but now their on hold. I chose September because I have always wanted to be on the East Coast during their beautiful foliage season. Not sure if the second week will be the right time but I am hoping so.

Let me know if you have visited Portland and what you think of the area. Also we have to find our places to stay. We both need a vacation soooo bad.

Two weekends ago I was able to go see my boys and my grand babies. Everyone looked good and seemed to be doing good. When you get a few days with your kids and grand babies it makes everything right with the world.

Guess I need to get busy. Just wanted to check in with you and see how you are doing.

Hope your well and sending you good wishes for a beautiful week.

Please remember all of the families and friends who are having to deal with that unbelievable horrific killing spree in Colorado. My heart goes out to all of them and I pray they can find some kind of peace.

Love to all
Maggie

Don't know your age, Hon. But you seem to pack more-doing-stuff, into your life, than anyone over 17 SHOULD.

How is the foot coming along????

Set up, among his smiling flowers

So glad to see a post from you, Maggie! Good grief, you've got so much going on there, if it's not pregnant kitties it's pissed off hornets! It has been so humid here, but thankfully we've got some rain that is actually turning the grass green again. I'm sure the leaves will be turning by the time you go to Maine. With this crazy weather we've been having and everything ahead of itself, I'm sure the leaves will be looking pretty for you.

I was just thinking last night that I hadn't seen a post from you for awhile and I was going to have to hunt you down. You can always come here for a vacation. THe leaves are beautiful in the fall.
How did you ever work.....you are so busy.
Those bad buzzies (one of my little ones call them that). That would be terribe being chased by them.
We are hoping to get a new roof son. Dread the noise.....the dogs will go crazy.
The shootings hit way too close to home. My son was directly involved. In the theater (9) with the victims and then at the apartment. We watched hm on CNN and our hearts just broke at what he experienced. Praying for all of them.
Gotta run....on my way to meet my mom at a surgeons for her hand.
XO

I think when your trip to Portland arrives, you are going to be more than ready to take a break. Whew! There's a lot going on there--hope it all falls into place. Watch out for those hornets!

Hello Maggie!
Just popped in to say hello and see how your summer is coming along. Sounds like it is a busy one for both you, your construction workers, your hornets, and your kitty! Enjoy those kitties!

I live in Massachusetts, Maggie. So September 'Leaf Peeping' sounds good! Trying to catch it at just the right day with the wacky weather we've been having this past year is gonna be a chore though! LOL

Aggressive hornets???? Oh, my! Thank goodness you got inside and could get help promptly. You've been through so much lately, Maggie, and still have that lovely sense of humor and perspective!

Hi Maggie,

Sounds like life has been really busy for you and was good to catch up with you again.
How scary having the hornets around and so glad you had them terminated.

Enjoy your holiday

My goodness, sweet Maggie what a lineup you have coming to make noise around your place. Wow, and those hornets I sure hope they got rid of them for you. Sure happy you did not get stung by them too. Hope your foot is getting better and better. Sorry about the kitty getting pregnant again before you could have her spayed. Maybe you will be able to get that done after this litter. I think a nice vacation is just what you need and I sure hope you and Christi get to go this time. Love and hugs sweet Maggie!

Mercy child, what a mess you are having to live with. Too bad you can't go on vacation while all that construction is being done to your house. I don't see much peace in your up coming days.
Hope that foot is better. I am surprised in this heat that you even have to mow.
I have only mowed twice this summer and that was to top the few weeds surviving. A few rains brought the grass back temporiarly but that is now history again.
I had a vet friend that once half jokingly said about cats that they only time they weren't pregnant was at birth and death. Good luck.

Wow Maggie, I'm glad that those chimneys are being taken down before a big wind did. I hope that the workers can take them down without too much damage. Having a new roof will be great. I need one badly too.

Life on the farm has been so busy too and I'm trying to straighten out the house that I've neglected for far too long.

On July 3rd I had two cows that calved and 2 cats that gave birth. Can you believe 5 baby kittens each...

I've been treating them for bad eye infections as they scratch each other in the eyes. I don't know how I'm going to be able to do my work with all those kittens running under foot. I've had 5 calves born in July.

Gophers make a lot of holes in our fields and we have hornets too and every years we find some in trees, in the hedge or under something low in the ground. I'm glad that we don't have poisonous sneaks though.

I haven't found the time to blog since the first week of July.

Take care, Hugs, JB

Maggie it is always so good to hear from you! I love it, you make my day.

Zeke was wearing my dad's old Halloween costume. Zeke is obsessed with WWII, so he has been wearing the costume and visitng vets from WWII for our summer project. It's been a lot of fun to hear their stories and adventures, and they seem to enjoy having their picture taken and a visit from a younger WWII buff. The bonus side is that Zeke is teaching Lib's kids all about the Nazi's and Pearl Harbor...

Blast all that mowing you have to do. The only bonus side of our heatwave and drought, is that we are saving loads of time and actually loads of $$$ by not having to mow. It usually takes Dan around four hours to mow our lawn. If we do the trimming, that is another five hours so we pretty much never trim. Hope you don't have any trimming to do as that would be nearly impossible for you!!!

Hopefully it will be cool for all your mowing tomorrow! So wish you lived closer so I could pop over with some ice cold lemonade!!!

Missing you too! I can see you have not slowed down and you still have a good story to relate! I found a nice size hornets nest last year in a bush very low to the ground..I cut through it with the hedge clippers..ouch! Eddy the boxer took the most stings..I just got one. But it hurt like heck! Jack hit a ground nest once mowing for me...he got stung about 10 times. They are nothing to mess with so be careful! I would love to got to Maine. It's on my bucket list. If you ever stop over in Ohio, please let me know! (Or just wave as you fly over!) Have a good weekend Maggie!

Oh my gosh, Maggie! Are you sure you want to keep hanging around that place? I can't imagine why you do it. Surely you cannot be making that much money and the work you have to do, plus all that you have to put up with in living in that old house. Boy, if it were me, I'd get out of there for sure. There must be somewhere else you could live that wouldn't cost you very much. I'm just not sure how you could be getting that much satisfaction from living there.

At least you guys will be going to Maine soon and I hope you have a wonderful time there. You surely do deserve it!!!!

I've been MIA, too.

Glad to hear from ya!

PS. Enjoy Maine. We LOVE it there.
