I Poisoned My Daughter!

Christi by daughter on the left. Me on the Right.....lol
No It's her friend Lisa.....

Remember the post I did about being totally obsessed with my fly problem. Well........I took things to extreme. Now you know that is not something I do. Right?

Last week one of the Officers at work came into the Office and was telling us how he had solved the bug problems around his house. He caters a lot and therefore of course does not want bugs around. My ears perked up when he mentioned it took care of the flies too. I sat up gave him my undivided attention.

Well he told us him and his brother mix Pine Sol and Bleach together and spray the whole outside of their houses. They do this about every two months and they swear by it.

I was sitting in a room surrounded by Officers and Fireman waiting for one of them to jump up and tell him you can't mix anything with bleach. No one questioned his mixture and even agreed they would try it. I so wanted to tell them my belief about the bleach but since one of them at one time had even been a Fire Chief I kept silent.

All the way home I kept saying should I do this....now let me say to you if YOU have to ask yourself over and over if you should do it.....we all know the answer is No. Well my obsessive side won and I wheeled my SUV into Wal Mart and got the biggest bottle of bleach and Pine Sol they sold.

Rushed home combined the two together and started spraying the heck out of those nasty flies. Enjoyed every moment that one fell to the ground. Horrible I know but their disgusting.

Half way through the operation KILL the Bad Boys my daughter Christi came out the front door to take her dog Toby out for his evening stroll. They walked around the area I was spraying and then I continued to spray after they were out of the area.

Two hours later Christi is laying on the couch and I had just put my PJ's on and getting comfy and she turns to me and tell me she is sick. I ask her what was wrong and she complained of chest pains, nausea and sore throat.

My motherly senses told me OH No this is really not good Then I thought of the spray I used. Grabbed the phone and called the Poison Control Center in Texas. Quickly there was help on the line and I explained what I had combined and sprayed and that my daughter was sick.

The lady wanted to know her name and age and then told me to tell her to take a hot shower and then go straight to the emergency room. The hot shower was to help clear the lungs until we could get to the ER.

She also told me NEVER ever mix anything with Bleach. Not anything! I told her I understood and would never do it again.

By this time I felt as low as one of those dirty flies I was trying to kill and wanted to cry. I had poisoned my precious girl.

We both dressed and headed for town. I kept asking her how she felt and told her to hang her head near the window so the fresh air could get inside her lungs.

Once there they did not even wait for us to do the paper work they took her immediately in a room and took her vitals. She had been Chemically Poisoned and they gave her a treatment like they do for Asama. Our sweet friends Donna and YaYa both work in ER's so they probably can tell you more of what went on than I can explain. What a job these two girls have....I so admire them both.

They were nice in the ER but I have to tell you I thought a couple of times CPS was going to come in and arrest me. lol

Thank God her lungs were clear and after some pills and a shot we drove home. I made her sleep in my room the farthest from the front porch. lol

Christi was a sweetheart through out the whole ordeal. Even when the doctor teased her about was she still going to stay with me after this. She said something crazy about me and they all laughed.

Actually she found another apartment in Austin today and is looking at moving around August 15th. It will be strange being out here alone again.
Believe me I have had nightmares about this and how close I came to really hurting Christi.

The next day at work I let all those guys know what had happened and they looked like I was telling a big fib. I even told them that being fireman I thought they would of known better. That cleared the room of the fireman..

My obsession with the flies is still a problem but instead of spraying chemicals I hired someone to cut down one of the trees next to my side entry where a lot of them were gathering. I know sounds extreme too but it drops berries this time of the year and the flies love it. It made more shade than I realized there but I can live with a sunny spot for some plants now.

And on top of all of this I still have sooooooooo many flies. Never seen anything like it. Everyone says it is because we are in a drought. Everything now is blamed on the drought. Who Knows!

Thanks so much for coming by and joining me again. I hated telling you about what a bad mother I am. I know I want be nominated this year in our town for Mother of the Year so I can forget that banquet. lol

Hope you liked my dream wedding and you went by Stephanie's site for her party. I appreciate all of you leaving your kind comments. I have received a few emails asking if I was holding out on you about a guy in my life and have I ever kept a secret from you. No....as long as I write for Just Between Me and You there probably want be any secrets.

Oh today I got my temporary tooth. It is a bridge for now until I decide on doing an implant. Which I am pretty sure that is the route I will take. They did a good job with this bridge but getting use to it may be a while. An Oral surgeon pulled what was left of the tooth and before he numbed my mouth so I could not speak he and I discovered that we both grew up in the same town of La Porte, Texas and his mother went to La Porte High too. She was a few years ahead of me but I remembered her. So now I have to go look her up in my old year book. Being that this dentist is now in Austin which is a long way from La Porte what were the chances of me going to him. He gave me a fifty dollar discount too.....so remember that when you go get your teeth fixed find out where hes from and you never know it could happen to you too. hahaha

Stay well and cool this week. It is a 100 all week here and continued no Rain in sight. Gretchen, Christi and I are working on a Rain Dance one night this week. Do you want to join us?

Sweet Dreams and Love to all
Maggie

PS
That is not me in the picture in case I fooled you!

Love the picture sweet Maggie...two beautiful ladies you are.

You are not a bad mother at all. You took great care of Christi when she got sick and you had no idea that mixture would make her sick. I am glad you both didn't get sick now that could have been bad with no one around to take you to the ER. I am glad all is well now. I hope after the tree has been gone awhile and all that fruit dries up the flies will leave.

I will be happy to join you in the rain dance. It is hot as blazes here and no rain either.

Keep hanging in there you gotta have nothing but good, happy dance stuff coming your way soon...you have had way over the top of all the other stuff.

Love and big hugs!

I am glad your daughter is doing fine now - What a crazy story - Dang flies!!
I am really surprised you didn't get sick too since you were the one spraying it.
I knew about not mixing anything with bleach I just didn't know it would make you that sick, that fast!

Oh Maggie! That is totally something I would have done! Hope she is doing better! She is so pretty! Man does she ever look like you!

Up here the state has started hanging these blue triangualar boxes in the trees to catch flirs...I think they are sticky...I don't really know, I just know that they have a lot of them haging in this small town where my hubbies parents are...pretty gross though :)

I better get lil' Roo to sleep but I am soooo glad she is all right!

So glad it wasn't more serious than it was. All's well that ends well, right?

Can't believe you still have flies after getting rid of the tree. Sheesh.

Don't be so hard on yourself. You didn't know it would hurt Christi.

But I'm surprised it didn't hurt you since you were around it more.

Is the little dog ok?

I didn't something similar about 20 years ago. We moved into a little rental house and the bathrooms were so grungy and filthy so stupid me mixed ammonia and bleach and went to work on the smallest bathroom with no ventilation. I ended up passing out from it. I didn't go to the hospital but later I found out I had some liver damage from it and developed asthma.

Darling daughter! You aren't a bad mother at all. You didn't know for sure that the stuff was poisonous, but our inside voice is usually right.

I would think twice about that implant. You aren't my mom's age by a long shot, but last year she had two lower implants. She lives in the city and only about 10 minutes from her dentist. It took quite a while for her to get her two teeth and then she went back no less than 25 times or more to get this little burr off and that little burr off. Lots of going back and forth getting the things to sit right without hurting.

I am definitely not into pain and just thought you might want to research this some more. Maybe you could Google to find some information.

I wish I could tell you something to do about those flies. Hey, maybe you could Google that as well. You can tell that I love Google.

Have a great day and stay cool. We are under a burn ban over here in NW Louisiana - drought.

Oh my Goodness! That must have be awful. How many times our gut says something to us and we do something else! We need to trust our gut feelings! (easier said then done after many years of telling it to be quiet!) I can not believe a fireman (and the officers)did that and no one said anything!!

You are NOT a bad mother! Makes you wonder why thing happen, the way they do, ya know?
I understand how you will feel i August...I feel that coming too...

Oh what are you like !! poisening your lovely daughter LOL..Thank goodness that you called the emergency services though.. Men !! what do the know mixing bleach with other things !! mind you I would have been just like you and tried anything to get rid of these flies...Just glad that all ended well...
If I coudl I would join you in your rain dance. Maybe a few prayers will do from this end. 100 deg..I think I might just die...I am moaning if the temp goes above about 80deg...Sunny day here temp around 70 which is lovely. showers though forecast for rest of week..
Love Always Sybil...

There is never a dull moment with you Maggie. I'm glad that Christi is OK. I guess that little voice in our head is there for a reason.
I can't believe you still have so many flies - it sounds like a scene from a horror movie. You are having a drought and we are getting drowned. I think we have had 6 or 7 days in the last month and a half that it didn't rain. I'm soggy!

Hello Maggie,

OMGosh....so sorry to hear of Christie's ER visit. Very glad she is ok now. That fly problem sounds like something from a Stephen King novel. YIKES!!!!

What a gorgeous daughter you have there.

You are a great mama! If you weren't, you would have just said "too bad your head hurts" and have gone to bed! Instead, you jumped into action...way to go!

Lesson learned...don't listen to a bunch of guys when your little voice is so much smarter!

I am so glad that she is ok.
I can not believe a fireman did not know any better!!!
So sorry to hear about your fly problem.
To bad I can't send you some of cool damp and rainy weather for some heat and dry.
We are having flooding problems here and they just keep saying more heavy rain in the forecast.

I'm glad Christie is ok!

Sorry about your flies. It's actually been rainy and cool here...

Too bad we couldn't take a little of your heat and you could have a little of our rain!

There is still over 100 inches of snow in the high country and we are all just waiting for it to melt and flood everyone out!

lol...

I would have believed these guys too. Sorry it turned out bad for your daughter and I am glad she is alright. We have a problem with mosquitoes here because it won't stop raining. UG!

Oh my goodness Maggie, I'm certain you are horrified but I assure you, you are not a terrible mother. We as parents all make mistakes and we learn and move forward. Bless you and Christi...

BTW...have you tried calling a bug man? Also, I will definitely join you in the rain dance....it is so dry here and silly me, we planted new shrubs; flowers so guess what we've been doing the last week? yesp, exploding our water bill!

hugs to you!

Are those guys single?? I mean are they widowers? It's not your fault that your beautiful daughter got sick. Some people are more sensitive to chemicals than others..the fact that you didn't get sick it proof of that. I'm glad she's OK! The fly problem would really drive me crazy and I'd try anything to get rid of them too. I'd do the rain dance with you but we've been the opposite..too much rain and today it's only 68de..I'm really not complaining because I'm not that fond of really hot weather. Just think how nice it is in the winter by you when it's 10de below here! Hope all is better soon..atleast I know when I stop at your blog it's going to be a crazy ride!

Oh Maggie how you make me laugh every time I stop by! I'm so glad Christi is OK. Now about the flies - an elderly friend of my husband's came up with an invention (he thinks he is an inventor) for catching flies that he says works miracles. It's just a 2 liter soda bottle that he cut and repurposed. You put some orange juice in the bottom of this "container" and it has a piece of flypaper hanging down inside it. Supposedly it attracts the flies and then they can't get back out. Oh and did I mention that he dresses it up with decals and neon orange and gold spray paint LOLOLOL Luckily we don't have a fly problem here because I wasn't hanging that thing outside. But I'll be glad to send you one honey - never hurts to try and I can get it free LOLOLOL Just email me if you want to try it. Hugs!

Wow, that had to be scary. So glad she is all right.
I did that terrible deed once, mixing Bleach with I can't remember what but ended up on the bathroom floor like a fish out of water. That is scary stuff.
I do hope you get rain soon. We had a dust storm in East Ar. last week and we are not nearly as dry as you all are.

Maggie, I'm so glad that your daughter Christi is well after getting sick from the fumes. I hope that a million flies died in the process though.

Your stories are always interesting, never a dull moment at your house.

One thing I've noticed is that as long as the flies are around, your back ache seems to have taken a back seat, lol. I hope that your back is getting a little better as time goes by. Good luck with the tooth. I'm wearing a partial and I have difficulty getting used to it too. I hope that you get a good down poor to drown those pesky flies. JB

I hate what happened to your daughter but I was hoping the whole time that I was reading this that it killed the flies. And you are not a bad mother, but maybe when you do get rain it will solve your problem...Take care, Susie

Well I am so sorry about your daughter. I have never had such a fly problem. You have to get some of those tapes that Julia has and then you can run into them during the night and have dead flies all over your hair and face. eweeeee.
we are wet and cold here so we have mesquitos that could carry you into the next county.

You didn't know. Quit beating yourself up.

Glad that she's ok.

Please send some of your warm temps this way.

Wow - that was awful, and I would not have guessed. But I should have, because I once poisoned myself nearly the same way - by mixing bleach and something else, when I was spraying down a shower stall. :) I was sick for three days!

Thanks for stopping by Spots and Wrinkles. Nice to meet you - Marsha

I know I said I was taking a blog break, but after your message I just had to come over to thank you!

First of all...your Christi is GORGEOUS! and second of all...why would you want to kill her??? LOL!
I started reading this post and knew the minute you started talking bleach and Pine Sol where this was heading...straight to the hospital..
I am so glad that everything is fine, but WOW what an ordeal! And I am still nominating you for Mother of the Year!!!!!!!!!

I read the post about loosing your tooth and have to tell you what happened to me one time. I had a bridge in my upper front and one day it broke and I had to go to work missing one of my teeth right next to one of my front ones. What a humiliating thing that was. I looked like I was from Idaho (Oh yea, I am from Idaho)!!!!heehee
sending a big hug your way!

It's funny now -- I'm sure it wasn't then. I once caught my baby's blanket on my button and pulled her off the changing table. It was horrible! I think it was harder on me than her.

I'm here (and following) from Strut Your Stuff.

May your day be joyful,
