Maine In April

Since my last post about sleep walking I showed my friend your concerns about her hubby and he has agreed to go see his doctor. Now if he will just keep the appointment and get the help for this problem.

When I told Christi about my phone conversation about his episodes it was just as I expected. She has one of those laughs that is contagious. I am ashamed at how hard we laughed

If  you found that story funny just wait until my next post about what Gretchen, Christi and I got into last night. Would tell you tonight but can't make it public for a day or two. Oh my gosh it is hilarious..

This has been a fun and busy week for me because Christi is still here. She came for the weekend and has stayed to help me paint a bedroom set that belonged to my grandmother. It is going to be really pretty when we finish. I will share some pictures later.

Now for some really awesome news. It seems I always have bad news to pass on but not this time. Christi has to be in Portland, Maine in April and guess who gets to fly there with her. She flies a lot with her work so she had frequent flier miles and bought me my ticket. Am I excited! I can not begin to tell you how much.

You see as far back as I can remember I have wanted to visit the East Coast. Especially Maine and Vermont. As a kid I was obsessed with Maine so much that I use to think I was adopted and my real parents were from Maine. I know I have been crazy that long.

I would love for this trip to be in the fall but beggars can't be choosy. We bought a travel book about Maine and I could not sleep the other night after browsing the pages.

So now of course I am hoping that you have been to Portland area and can give us all the advice we need for having a great time. Also is April still considered part of winter there? I am worried it may be still to cold to enjoy.

Would love to hear your suggestions and about your trip there. Also need neat places to stay and visit.

As most of you know Texas has had some really horrific wild fires that have caused not only loss in lives but homes. Since Sunday evening I have been smelling smoke from some of these fires. The first time I smelled it I freaked out thinking the North Forty was burning. Scared the you know what out of me because these old 100 year old house out here would go up in minutes.

I do want to express my deepest sympathy for all who have suffered this week during these fires. There are so many of them the fire fighters just can not get them under control and just north of me over 600 houses burned in a short time.

What scares me living so close to a main highway like I do that some idiot will carelessly throw a ciggerette out their car window and the end result could be tragic just like these other situations.

Please keep praying for rain in Texas. I have lived in Texas all my life but this is the worst drought that I can remember.

Then some of you need for us to pray for sunshine. One thing for sure mother nature does her own thing when and where she has a mind too.

Well I must close for now but wanted to say hello and to check on you. You are always in my thoughts.

Love to all
Maggie

I think it's still pretty cold in April but you're going to love it anyway. Just make sure you wear your long underwear and stay warm. Friends and I flew into Boston and drove up the coast to Nova Scotia for a rug hooking class several summers ago. My favorite place was Maine - it's just so beautiful. We went up the coast not on a main road. There are antique places galore (but not sure if they will all be open in April since it isn't tourist season yet) and the food is amazing. We loved Searsport the best of course since Searsport Rug Hooking was there (they have since moved to Verona I think). You HAVE to try some chowder while you're there - it's amazing. And anywhere that has Maine blueberry bread pudding - OMG it's so good. Can you tell I want to go back? LOL

Maggie, how exciting that you are coming to Maine with Christi even though it will be April.

Gosh, it's still raining here in Fredericton New Brunswick and I'm looking forward to some dry and sunny spell, not a drought though... and yes I would gladly send you some rain. The water level is high in the St John river in front of our house for this time of year.

I sure hope that you will get some quenching rain soon, like right now would be nice.I feel sorry for the poor folks who lost their homes to the fires.
Hugs, JB

Maggie, what a great opportunity. You will love Maine, but you might want to pack your long undies - just in case. April on the east coast can go either way. You might see tulips in a bed of snow :)

I would also like to see the east coast as I hear it is so beautiful.

If I could box up some rain and send it to Texas, I surely would.
I have not been to Maine in April, but I'll bet it will have a kind of weathered appeal. And lobster.

I worked in a summer camp in Maine and it is a total favorite state. However we were not near much civilization so I can't help you about where to go. I do know that as Floridian, I was in warm clothes a lot, even in the summer, so take a warm jacket at least.
It is a shame that the water that buried Vermont couldn't have visited Texas. I do hope you all get relief soon.
Have a wonderful trip.

I am a girl who grew up in Maine and that picture of Nubble light at york beach could be covered in snow in April or warmish(not really warm) still coat weather or heavy sweater. When you go to Portland go to the water front it has lots of fun shops and food. Portland also has a light house called portland head light which is really in Cape Elizabeth(I think). you have to try a lobster fresh from the icy atlantic Since we live only 2 hours from Portland we never stay so I have no recomendations on that. I will ask my friend she grew up in Portland.
to get you started on the Maine language practice dropping all "R" sounds we don't use them(Ca=car)
answer all questions with ayah. I am So glad you will get to visit the wonderful Northeast.I will pray for rain and relief for you and your state.

I've never been to Maine, but we almost moved there once! I was very disappointed to have to pass that opportunity by...Donna (Starkey Hollow) has some good friends who live there and can give you some advice on the weather..I'm thinking it's still a bit chilly. But one day I'll get there as I have it on my "to do" list of life...hope it rains soon for Texas..I think of you often with the fires and I'm glad you're doing good so far. Have a great weekend Maggie!

So happy about your vacation! As a child the New England states were my favorite to visit. I was always there in the summer and there were rambling roses climbing all the fences everywhere. You'll love it.

Praying for Texas.

Portland is such a lovely area and there is lots to do there. Make sure you take some time and wander around the Old Port section and go in all the little shops and nice little eateries there. There is a huge Mall called the Maine Mall with lots of other strip malls around with some good places if you like to shop. The Christmas Tree Shop is huge and fun to wander around in. It's not just Christmas stuff at all, it has everything. The beaches are close by, within a half hour but in April it will be rather chilly for that. I'll keep thinking, maybe can come up with some other ideas. What do you like to do? Antiquing? Shopping? Old buildings? April isn't the best month to be here but I still think you will enjoy it!!!!!!!
