What A Mess!

Humor me with my showing you pictures of our hail storm the other night. I say humor me because I know that this storm is nothing compared to the snow most of you have been dealing with for months now.

I did find out during this storm that this ole grandma can still run. About one in the morning Tinkerbell and I were woke by a roaring noise that sent both of us jumping from the bed and each running in seperate directions.

Under my stairway in the living room there is a closet that I store Christmas decorations and my luggage. Every person usually has a plan in case of a bad storm to run and hide. In this ole farm house that is the only place I think might save me during a tornado.

I know that roaring noise and hail can mean a tornado might be developing and nothing scares me more than the thought of a tornado. I set a record running from the bedroom to the living room and then throwing out enough of my decorations to find a hole to sit in.

Tinkerbell and I were very lucky that it was just a very bad hail storm and
thank goodness that the hail did not destroy my car or the windows in the house. It did strip numerous trees of their leaves and branches. These pictures I am showing you are just of my front porch and back yard.

Clean up is still going on since there are 52 acres out here and lots of trees. I spent hours in my yard cleaning up the mess.  Then this afternoon  I mowed about three hours trying to mulch a lot of the leaves with the tractor.

It was a blessing that my landlady was not here that night because the poor thing would not have survived the storm. She is very frightened of storms and this one was very bad. The hail beating on the tin roof and the roaring noise that sounded like a train coming through was unnerving.  My brother laughed at me when I told him the house actually shook. It sure felt like it to me while sitting under the stair way. lol

This has been a very busy week and passed quickly. I had to paint the windows in the dining room that my painters left me to do. I was so angry about them not finishing their job. It may take me a while to send them their check.

The windows were painted such a dark green that I had to give them three coats of paint. I was using Behr paint with primer but it still took three coats.

Tell me about your week and how your doing. I love hearing from you. My plans for the weekend are to spend some time catching up with you and enjoying your sites.

Also I am hoping that your sharing what your cooking for Easter because Christi is bringing her boyfriend to my home for the first time and I can not decide what to fix. They are celebrating Easter at his mothers on Saturday and then here Sunday.

It's late and I am very tired tonigt so I will say good night. As always I appreciate you coming by here and I love it when you leave me a note letting me know how you are.

Oh, Maggie! How scary! How exhausting! You work so hard. I hope you get a bit of rest and relaxation this weekend.

How great you're going to have Christi and her friend for Easter. I'm not cooking this year because I've been invited to a neighbor's house for the holiday. They are planning to serve ham, baked sweet potatoes, green beans and apple pie. Sounds pretty good to me -- though I do miss cooking for the family on holidays. I would usually serve ham or turkey breast with all the fixings, depending on which family members were coming. Does Christi have any special favorites? Maybe that's your clue!

I'm glad you made it through the storm safely!...The clean up doesn't look that fun though. :-(

Hi Maggie, You have every right to be scared. A hail storm is bad, but if you heard what sounded like a freight train, there was a tornado in the air. It may have just not come down. I have been through more then one and scared to say the least. We were lucky that it didn't come all the way to the ground. I wouldn't pay the bill for the paint job or I would deduct part of it for them not paying the job. I am invited out Easter and we will celebrate after we see hubby at the nursing home. I think we are going to go against the traditional and have roast beef, cheesy mash potatoes, green beans, and my grandson is making jello using his new Easter moulds. He is making individual rabbit, eggs, stars, and I forget the other. Of course there will be a cheese cake, you get to choose between strawberry, blueberry, and she was going to have one other flavor. You have to rest, we aren't as young as we use to be. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.

Hi Maggs:
That was one heck of a storm! Wow. What a mess! Glad you didn't get hurt waiting out the hail, and that you didn't overdo it with the cleanup.

I've been busier than a "one legged man at an a$$ kicking contest"! I'm still trying to catch up on my projects, and then another "emergency" rears its ugly head. And I haven't begun to pull together tax stuff yet. blech!

Hope you have a restful weekend, now that your chores are done. Enjoy the holiday and time with Christi!

Happy Easter, girlfriend.
xoxo

So sorry the storm scared you. We are still getting snow and it is going to be a cold Easter. So the little ones will need snow suits and mittens for the egg hunt.

Wow, that is a mess and sounds like a scary thing to wake up to, Maggie! I've had to think of a safe place here because it is not unheard of for tornadoes to hit in Ohio {apparently}. Ours is our main bathroom.

I finally decided, based on everybody's likes and dislikes, that we are making lasagna. I have to find gluten free lasagna noodles for my own little tray. My Mom used to make ham or lamb.

Very glad that you and Tinkerbell are safe. Also glad to read that your auto and property did not suffer major damage.

I think a major hair storm is one of the few disasters Mother Nature has not gifted us with. Toes crossed.

We are going to do lamb for to celebrate Spring. If the weather is good Proge will do it on the grill.

Get a little rest before everyone arrives and enjoy the day!

Wow, that is a mess. Can't imagine what the back 40 looks like and to have company coming puts a rush on things.
Hope you like Christi's boyfriend. Tell him to be good to her or he will get the opportunity to meet Pearl.
Have a wonderful Easter Maggie.

I think I would take a snowstorm over a tornado. I am so glad that you and Tinkerbelle are safe. I can just picture you in the hidey-hole and I am quite sure the house did shake and rattle, but thankfully not roll.

So happy that you and Tinkerbelle escaped that awful storm uninjured sweet Maggie. Clean up is a huge job so don't over-do. Big hugs and nose kisses for you and Tinkerbelle. Maggie and gang

Wow Maggie - I bet that was scary hearing the hail on a tin roof! My dogs would have been scared out of their wits. I was in the house and just thought it was raining hard here. But Jack was outside trying to cover up some plants and dug up dirt before the rain hit and he nearly was beaned with a hunk the size of a golf ball. You should have seen that crazy man going out with our deflated air mattresses trying to cover the front of my car! And it was lightning at the time! No damage here and it didn't last long but it sure was big hail!

So glad there was no more damage than that...which is enough.

Hi again Maggie, I'm back. I was on diaper duty as my daughter had to take a nap. Little Daniel wanted to breast feed every hour during the night. Daniel had a big explosion and needed a diaper change.

Coming back to your terrifying time under the stairs... I'm so thankful that you and Thinkerbell were not hurt.
I'm so glad that it was only a hail storm but by the look of it, it sure made a big mess. There always seems to be some extreme weather lately.

Here in Ottawa, the sky was blue and the sun was shining but again it clouded over. It has snowed almost every day since I've been here. Still lots of snow on the ground. Where is spring. We might just skip spring this year and go from winter to summer, my guess...

Earlier this week there was over 100 car pile up in Edmonton Alberta with 100 injured. The weather was so bad that the rescue helicopter was grounded and the worst injured were transported by ambulances and the rest were transported to hospitals by buses. There were some big 18 wheelers also in the pile up.

I hope that the rest of the weekend is calm.
Don't over do it.
Hugs & love
JB

Yikes! Hail storms are so crazy!! Sorry for your damage, Maggie.

So glad that you ae okay. You must have been scared to death. Most of the time my Hubby and I wake up and say that we should go to the basement but never do. I am glad you took shelter with Tinkerbelle.
So much work to clean up afterwards.
Not sure what we are doing for Easter. Have fun with your daughter and her friend. They make a cute couple.
Hope fully you will have a good week.

Glad you made it through the storm. I think Behr needs to go back to the drawing board on that paint-and-primer stuff. I've never gotten good results from one coat, no matter what the commercials say ~

Hi Maggie, my first time here and boy it was exciting to get caught in that hail storm ...I've been tired of snow here at our little New England farm. It was a fun change of pace.
We have a "Tinkerbell" too probably not the same species as yours, as she wouldn't fit in the bed...although she HAS been in the kitchen one night when she was really sick. Our Tinkerbell is a Shetland pony. You'll see her if you ever stop by ,she is the black and white one. Quite the charachter our Tink is. Glad I found your blog ...I will be back more often. Now I am off to peek around your back post and find out who your "Tinkerbell" is. :)

Sure sounds like a tornado was somewhere near by! Holy smoke that was messy indeed. I'm glad you're OK but sorry you have such a difficult task ahead. I got caught in a hail storm once while out walking..boy did that hurt! We're going to Oregon for Easter and I think ham is on the menu! Enjoy your family. I just love Easter!

Oh Maggie, So glad that you are safe and the property, What a mess for you to clean up...still suppose it was better than snow... The winter is still with us over here. Although we have been so lucky in Box not to have the snow that other folks have..snow lying over 4ft just about 20miles north of us and flooding has already killed one person when the house collapsed about 30 miles south of us...it is just so so perrishing cold. Where oh where is the spring..I think it is going to be a cold easter here. We will be going out for lunch but if I had it at home I would probably make the traditional lamb with the trimmings...whatever yu do just enjoy each others company...and come back and share a few laughs with us..God Bless and have a lovely Easter xxxx

Holy wow, what a whirl wind life you have. You're definitely not lacking in excitement... lol. It's a good thing you have Tinkerbell there with you. I'm glad this storm wasn't any worse. I'm lovin' your pink outdoor furniture :)
I haven't been able to get you out of my head, because my daughter, who's 30 years old, has been accepted at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police academy. She starts April 29th! I don't know where she'll end up when and if she makes it through. I've told her of your tales on your job. Her male friend works as a nurse at a prison and he has some interesting tales he shares with her at times.
Have fun and enjoy your visit with daughter and her boyfriend. I'm so happy for her and wish them the best. Take care my friend :)

Maggie, what a mess!!!
I'll bet you did pick 'em up and put 'em down to get under those stairs pronto.

Our weeks pass one after another we enjoy our time whether we accomplish any thing or not. :-)

I've been knitting, quilting with younger daughter, sewing pj bottoms, wallhanging, and, yes, even baking today.

We have six inches of snow, just from this morning. Probably ice over night and thru the morning. We'll not go out and about til the roads are dry.

Come, see my blog for pics of a few of my projects

Hugs to you Sweet Maggie
And Tinkerbell

WOW! It has been a very long time since I have seen a hail storm that bad. It reminds me of our 2009 ice storm. I looked out my door the morning after the night of freezing rain. It was beautiful but it sounded like a war zone as limbs and trees were snapping like sniper fire all around my neighborhood. We were without electricity for 10 days. I learned we could actually exist in one room together with a dog, cook on a top of bottled gas with a heating element attachment. Thank goodness for cell phones to check on friends. We had a gasoline driven generator which we hooked computers too but not large appliances. We lost all in the freezer. Why was I so stupid as not to unload it onto the front porch. It was below freezing for quite a few days. I do not have good survival skills, but I learned a few.

It was bad in all over Burleson. I drove through there Saturday morning right after the Kidney Foundation Walk was cancelled at Trinity Park in Fort Worth. I took several pics and at one point tried to guage how deep the hail was by using my finger as a ruler. It was over the first knuckle, over an inch deep! And it had been there for 45 minutes by the time I reached there. So it must have been every bit of two inches deep. God Bless Texas in the springtime!!!

Willow from "Whiles of Willow" dropped by and left a comment. She said she found me through you so I just wanted to drop by and meet you too. It appears as though you love old houses too. I have kept christmas decorations under our stairway for years. This year I took it out and put it in the carriage house.

It looks like you did have quite the storm.

Oh Maggie, sound horrible! And looks pretty bad too. So glad you are safe and no serious damage. Bummer about all the clean-up you have to do. It's amazing how fast a storm can create some serious damage. I loved seeing all your green leaves though. I still have a couple feet of snow on the ground. And it kind of seems as if it is here to stay a while longer.

Have a wonderful Easter. We are going to my parents house, I still have no clue what I will be bringing. Wish I could help you on that one!
Miss you!

i'm so glad that hail stayed on
the outside of your house
and didn't rip it's way inside!
what a mess, indeed.
glad you and sweet kitty are alright.
we've had cold but no snow,
thank the Lord.
all of these snowy days could likely make some beautiful crops
and fields this year.
at least it helps with the drought.
i hope your Easter is beautiful
and overrunning with joy:)

Whoopsy! The photos tell how tremendous the hail storm was. What was the most affected part of your house? And how was your roof? It normally gets smashed during a hail storm, so I had to ask. The last time our town was hit by a storm, our house was almost destroyed. We need to replace our roof and windows. I hope you’re doing well today!
