My Dining Room!

The last two weeks Tinkerbell has been hiding upstairs under a chase while the construction guys were here working. I managed to snap a quick picture of her after she realized we were alone again.

What she did not know at the time I took this that my daughter's dog Toby was on his way here for me to baby sit him. So now poor Tinkerbell is back under the chase upstairs. lol

Every day I thought of you and wanted to do a post but with everything going on here I have crawled to bed exhausted and unable to concentrate long enough to write.

In all honesty these two weeks have been very hard on me and am so glad their over.

Here I am sharing the dining room that I had painted yellow. The ceiling was damaged before the new roof was put on last summer so I was excited that my landlady agreed to spend the money on this room.

It is a pretty yellow and I will enjoy having a brighter dining room. If you look at the pictures you will see that they did not paint the ugly dark green trim around the two windows. Now tell me have you ever heard of such a thing as leaving the windows unpainted. I ask them if they were going to do the windows and they told me that their boss said no because he had already spent too many days out here and was not making enough on this job.

I am of course furious because I know that I will be the one painting the windows and I hate painting windows. I am still painting the picket fence around the house and with all the rain we have been having I have also started mowing again which leaves me little time for anything else

The clean up was horrible because the painters scraped the ceiling and the walls for three days. Each day I used a shop vac trying to keep the mess contained to this area but with the guys working in two rooms it was useless.

After days of mopping I have finally started moving some of my pieces back into the room. Problem is I don't know right now how I want to arrange the furniture.

Up til a few months ago this room has been an extra bedroom but I hated coming out of my tiny kitchen into a bedroom so I moved the bed to the back room but of course that room is full and unless I get rid of some furniture I can't move the two amoire's that go with the bed. These pieces are so big and heavy that for right now I will have to leave them where they are until my sons visit.

It's a shame that they waited so long to do these repairs because it won't be long and I should be moving to Georgetown.  The first few months I will be coming back out here until I make up my mind if I really want the job in Georgetown.

As you can tell by my writing that I am too tired to even write this without rambling.

I was actually surprised when I realized how long it had been since my last post.  I keep hoping that I might be better at blogging but it seems I am getting worse.

This weekend I hope to take some time and visit with you. Christi left Toby with me for two days while she meets Paul's family. So Toby will be getting a lot of my attention and I will be trying to convince Tinkerbell that she doesn't have to spend the whole weekend hiding out.

Take care of you and as always I love it when you come by for a visit.

Love to All
Maggie

What a pretty yellow! We're painting our livingroom yellow too! Your cat is beautiful, hopefully she'll enjoy the company!
Have a great weekend.

You have been so busy as usual and I hope that the worst is over. Too bad the painter didn't finished his job. That green paint is quite dark. It will look much better after you repaint it white. Painting windows is not my favorite thing to do either.

Your dining room will look nice. You have some beautiful furniture.

We still have snow here at my daughter in Ottawa and there is flooding in Fredericton and the river watch is on because of all the rain that fell.

I'm here till Easter.

Take care,,
Hugs,
JB

I love the yellow, it looks so cheery. And your furniture will look lovely next to it...but wait...you are moving? I must have missed that one. Moving to Georgetown? when? a job? a job, wow, I must catch up.

Hi Maggie:
I guess I've been missing a lot! I didn't know you were moving!

Like everyone else, I have a hard time believing that the contractor was so unreliable and didn't really finish the job. No ethics, I guess.

Take care of yourself and enjoy your new dining room. I'll be back to visit again soon!

Hi Maggie,

Hope all is well and take care and enjoy the weekend

Poor you! You must be exhausted. Poor Kitty too, what with all the upheaval and a dog to dealwith too! She must be wondering what on earth is going on. Don't workmen make you really angry when they can't be bothered to do their work properly. They used to take a pride in their work. but I'm afraid those days are long gone. I hope the move works out OK for you, if that's what you decide you really want. But what about the Cowboy? lol

I hate when little things (that turn into more work for me) are not completed. Maybe next time I'm in on a surgery that takes longer than expected I'll suggest we just stop. Hey, this job is taking too long and we're not making any money on that bad body part! Ha! I do love your sunny yellow and with your furniture and touches it will look lovely. Don't work too hard and try and have a relaxing weekend!

Oh, Maggie,
Sometimes life' crazy.
Take time to have a glass of ice tea on the porch.
I'll pick up my knitting and be right over.
Kitty just might find an extra ball of yarn in my bag to chase around the chair legs. ;-)
Hugs for ya, Sweetie

Miss Maggie...that yellow room has so much character, I just love it!! The wood work is gorgeous!!
I agree though...painting and scraping is just painful! It's worth it in the end though...so pretty!~!

Aw Maggie, just post when you feel like posting girlfriend. This is your blog to do with as you like. And although we love hearing your stories and adventures, you need to do what you need to do. Sounds like you need a good long week at a spa! LOL I don't like painting windows either but just think how beautiful your dining room will look when you're done! Hugs!

The boss is the one who quoted the estimate for a completed job so they should man up and do it right. Where was Miss Pearl when you needed her.
Poor you and Tinker, talk about stress. Sure hope things slow down for you and you get in some "me" time soon.

Hi Maggie, Your yellow reminds me of my dining and kitchen area that the walls are painted a bright yellow. At times it makes you think that you left the light on. I think the painter shouldn't have been paid until the job was done. Didn't he look at the job before he started to see what all was to be done? I am praying that you like your new location when you move. You will be closer to family that should make a very good enticement. I don't know how I would handle it without the kids close with hubby still in the nursing home. My grandsons have a way of brightening my day. Try to get some rest. I love the picture of Tinkerbell on the steps. Have a wonderful day. Hugs and Prayers from your Missouri Friend.

It all sounds exhausting, Maggie, but your dining room is beautiful! I hope Tinkerbell emerges soon and maybe even comes to like being with Toby. (Every time I see a picture of her I'm struck with how much she looks like my SweetPea!) Oh, my: Christi meeting Paul's parents? A job in Georgetown? I've missed so much that's going on with you due to my being away from reading and writing blogs for a time. I'm going to go back and read up! I hope that all goes well with everything -- the home improvements, the new job, Christi's beau... Get some rest!

Oh, dear. None of this can be very good for your back. Please try to take it a little easy, Maggie. I think you are overdoing it!

And it's so annoying to think they would leave the painting job unfinished!

Sheesh.

May I simply say what a comfort to uncover a person that really knows what they're discussing on the web. You actually understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important. A lot more people really need to read this and understand this side of the story. I can't believe you are
not more popular given that you certainly have the gift.

To be a GREAT contractor, you clean as you go and don't leave a mess for the homeowner--that way they get good referrals. I love the yellow--can't believe they didn't finish the trim. Rest up, then you will be able to accomplish the furniture.
