A Quote that reminds me of You!

Another beautiful picture painted by my lovely friend Mary Ellen Shipnes!
Her art makes me happy so I wanted to share it with you!

It is two in the morning and the pain woke me even though I had taken my nightly pain meds and was even lying flat on my back like the doctor ordered. I tried to convince Tinkerbell to go to the kitchen and get me a Diet Dr. Pepper and some crackers so I could take another pill…she rolled her big fat self over and looked at me like ….yeah right!! I thought out loud where she could here me while getting the stuff myself, “Well just wait till in the morning when you are slapping me awake for your food. I’ll roll my equally fat body over and look at you funny too.”

Anyway I propped a zillion pillows behind my back and thought I should catch up with all of you till the pain pill kicks in then sweet dreams or should I say nightmares because that’s what those pills give me.

As most of you know this fool that writes this blog fell at work and broke two of her vertebrae’s in her back and if that were not enough got a concussion to go with it. My partner that found me thank God had the sense not to move me and called 911 which was in the next office over and they got the EMT’S there fast and took me to the emergency room. They only did a CAT scan of my head because of the goose egg knot on it and then they released me saying take a few days off. Well because of the Doctor not doing his job in the ER and examining me other than my head I might not be still lying here in such pain. I literally had to beg their Workwoman’s Comp doctor to do a MRI on my back, neck and brain because the pain was unbearable. It took them three weeks to do this and for three weeks I did not know I had two broken vertebrae’s. Now it’s like I can’t get well! I truly believe if they had did something from the beginning instead of sending me home I might have had a chance of recovering a lot sooner and a lot less pain.

I guess because the walls are caving in on me and I am going stir crazy that I wrote this. But I also wrote it to let you know that anytime you get hurt from a fall especially one as bad as this one. Don’t let them send you out the door with an ice pack and aspirins. Demand they do some test and save yourself months of pain.

Also please don’t climb on anything even a latter unless there is someone there to hold it for you. Take it from one who knows it could be the last time you ever climb on anything.

My Sheriff and others there at work have been really great and supportive to me but I feel guilty leaving them short handed and not healing faster. Also I can’t work here on the ranch for Barbara and that makes me feel bad. I truly believe those three weeks of no help has caused me a lot of undue hurt and misery.

Enough on that subject. What I really wanted to say to you tonight is the quote that I think of often when I think of you. I feel it was written for me. Read it and hang it over your computer and when you are as fortunate as I am with the friends I have met on here then I will know you will say OMG how true this is and then you will say it was written for me.

“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive”…anais Nin

Thank you for being my friend and getting me through these past two months.

Sweet Dreams

Hi Maggie! I found your blog a couple of weeks ago and became a new follower. I was sorry to read of your fall and the pain you are in. My closest imagining is that a couple of years ago I had an emergency appendectomy. I had to sleep on my back for a few weeks {well, several weeks} and the pain pills never last the full amount of time until you can take more {if you go by the clock}. In my case, they did every test under the sun while I was in excruciating pain ~ MRI, CT scans, sonograms, ultrasounds and the surgeon comes in and uses his hand to determine it's my appendix! Hope your medication kicks in soon and I hope you have a restful sleep.

It is sad that we are at the mercies of those who are supposed to know better. Also sad that we do not know the proper questions to ask since we have not spent a third of our lives in medical training.
I am so sorry you have not found relief. Think I might try another doctor. Thinking of you and praying for you daily.
Be well soon lady.

Dear Sweet Maggs:
I'm so sorry to hear that you're still in so much pain. I know what you mean about the pain meds. I have awful dreams, too, when I take the Super Pills. I hope they're not causing you to thrash about in your sleep...that would defeat the purpose! I'll continue to pray for your healing. It just isn't right that this should be so hard on you. Please take care, my friend. I'll write again soon.
Love,
Donna

Oh Maggie, sorry this pain will not go away. DOn't feel guilty about work. You would cover for them as well and they know that. Everyone wants you to get better. But, so sorry that it is taking so long for that to happen. I still can't believe that they didn't catch your problem in the ER.
Once when my son was in a horrific bike accident. He took off from home because he had birthday money without a helmet. Hew was going to the mall. He had never ridden out of our neighborhood. So down the hill just off our street, locked his brakes and flipped 10 times on his head. He laid in a pool of blood at least three feet wide. Squad took him to ER. Can you believe they checked him out and sent him home. They never even checked out where the blood came from. Then he stood up and couldn't walk.....they barely checked these two things out and still released him.
ALl night long he was slirring his words and really out of it. We had to take him to another hospital the next day. Terrible. He did recover just to go on to have more head injuries. Sometimes you have to kick butt to get things taken care of.....but the problem is when you are injured you can't do that. Get better my dear.

I am sorry that you had such a hard night. I too wish the doctor had done a better job examining you. The doctors don't have to suffer when they mess up, the patient does.

I am so glad that you came into my world. I am praying for you.

I drink Diet Dr. Pepper too...another reason we have connected.

Take Care!
Love~

My sweet friend....GOD is beginning a new adventure through this tragedy. Patience is often difficult, but please accept the journey and rest in HIS arms. He loves you and HE has much for you during these quite days of staring at the ceiling. As for work, you should not feel guilty...you did NOT intentionally leap from a tall building and break two vertebrae. As for the farm...well, someone should pick up the slack as you would for them if they were in your shoes. We will all pray GOD sends someone to mow, etc. We will also pray for HIS healing touch to come upon you!
Hugs, blessings, and prayers,
andrea

Ohhhh, sweet friend, I am so sorry that this has happened to you ... BUT ... I preach this same to everyone I know about emergency or regular Drs. Do not take their answer as gospel when you know something isn't right. Demand more of them. I am so sad that this is lingering for you & hope that you do heal quickly.

Next time you climb a ladder, make sure you are wearing your superman cape ... sorry, I had to say that, chuckle! Did you smile? I hope so.

Remember we are all here, we love you & a day without you is like no vitamins.

Huggers, Marydon

Glad to hear from you, GYH!
A terrible way for you to spend your summer.
It sounds as if you have a wonderful group of indiviuals surrounding you, not including Tinker Bell!
How does one go about getting your mailing address to send you cards?

Maggie,
My DH has had a terrible time of it with compression fractures of his vertebrae.
The doctor has performed several vertebroplasty [a procedure that injects epoxy into the vertebrae, this fills all the vacant spaces and remedies the compression fracture]
The pain is most debilitating. Pains meds between procedures were the answer, somewhat.

We're still keeping you in our Thoughts and your 'speedy' recovery, Maggie.

Hugs,
Gerry

Maggie it's horrible to know that you're still struggling, sending love and hugs to you. Have your doctors fully explored all the treatment options with you? Have you thought of asking to see a pain management specialist? xxx

Sometimes the smartest people don't know a damn thing. Sorry you got a crummy doc in the ER. I hope he is not the reason you are still in so much pain, because I think it would be worse to feel like all of this misery could have been prevented if he'd done a better job. I do hope you are feeling better soon! xoxo

Hi Maggie, I was wondering how you were doing. I know about doctors who want to send you home without answering the questions. I have learned a lot over the last ll years being a primary care giver for my hubby. I have been there when they just wanted to send him home. Every heart attack has been silent that does not show in an ekg, only in blood work. To find a doctor who will listen is really hard I know that.
I will keep you in my prayers and I wish I could send you a miracle drug that would make you all better. I know about pain, I have osteporsis so my bones break easy. I reached over the wooden arm of a chair for something out of reach. In the process putting the pressure on the ribs and fracturing them. It was dumb, but I had the problem finding a medication that I could take that wouldn't make me think I was in the funny farm. I enjoy reading your post and I do hope you get better soon. You can fire doctors you know. I learned how to do that. Hopefully you will have a better day and night. Your Missouri Friend

Dear Maggie: I am so sorry to read about way you were not treated properly at the hospital. I hear these stories more and more. I know years ago, when we did one of those papers about what to do with us if we get really hurt, our lawyer asked for my local physician's name and number. I told him and he looked up: "isn't he a veterinarian?" Yep, I said, and I'd trust him more than the doctors in this town of ours. I still stand by that.
I've had four fairly notable concussions over the last 40 years and I'm now very interested in watching the news about how they're taking these things more seriously and recognizing the long term effects, especially with kids and adults playing football. I am also finding it a great way to excuse myself for my flagging memory (LOL). Seriously...I'm glad you finally have a diagnosis on your broken vertebrae so you at least know part of what you're dealing with. I don't think I'm going to worry too much about you until you lose your sense of humor, though...which, of course, I hope never, ever, happens! Love you!
